Half-Life
Half-Life 2 + Episodes
Portal 1 + 2

Valves really knows what they're doing

And of course Nintendo is great. Half-Life and Ocarina of Time came out in the same month of 1998... pretty amazing if you think about it. Finest month in the history of gaming.

May catch some heat for this, but Majora's Mask is my favorite Zelda game out of them all. Just something about the grim story, everyone around you facing their inevitable doom and the importance of every moment makes every move you make seem important and I like that.

I've never understood the hate for the game. Majora and the OoT are the primary reason I still have my N64.

That Kafe/Anju quest is incredible.

Cod4- All Ghillied Up

Unforgettable, imo. I bought CoD4 for the PS3 a few months ago just so I could play that one level.

Halo 2- Regret.

While I loved the entire game, parts of the campaign became monotonous(same with H1, and H3). Regret is the level I remember playing the most, and enjoying the most out of all 3 games. While almost every other level I heavily remember, I remember for the cut scenes. Metropolis being the biggest exception to that, always enjoyed that level a lot too.

Fable and Fable 2 were both really fun games overall. At least, in the spirit of the thread. Not sure how you would rank open world in a thread about single levels though.

It's hard trying to remember everything I've played.

For example, there are several levels from Rogue Squadron I vaguely remember loving. But I can remember basically every map on Goldeneye. When I last played them both around the same time. It's kind of weird what our mind determines it will remember without us really thinking about it.

I love this guy.

Although I wouldn't put Portal 1 up there in level design, but no doubt 2.

Just...no. Majora's Mask is way too complex for a 9 year old. We're thinking about these in retrospect having already discovered everything. Can you imagine a 9 year old playing Majora's Mask blind having to manage the cycle of time alone? Please. I played OoT when I was 9. I had no idea what to do after the child dungeons. Those games didn't hold your hand at all.

Just no.

I was 10 with no internet or game guide . Had no issue beating the game and completed it quicker than OoT. My friends who owned the title fwlr the same way. MM is not hard, but if puahes you to keep moving forward.

Edt: Sht older than I thought. Was actually 12.

Did you not play as a kid or just the 3DS remaster?

He gave it another chance, I'll give him that. I just think you either love or hate the 3 Day Cycle. I can understand why people don't love Majora's Mask, even if I think it is overall the best Zelda game. I love it for how unique it is, the tone, and pressure the game puts on you. A lot of people don't want that in a Zelda game. That's perfectly fine to be honest.

What he said. I thought I didn't give it a fair shot as a child so I played the remaster and just didn't like it.

Portal 1 was pretty much a tech demo. They stretched their legs with 2.

Speaking of Portal 2, the entire Cave Johnson condemned testing area is great. Introducing the new mechanics (blue, orange, and white gels) and the insight into the origins of GLaDOS was perfect. Also, that big security door that opens up revealing the tiny push handle door with the folding chair

What's interesting is nowhere in this thread has anyone brought up racing tracks from any racing games. Technically, these are levels.

I think the ghost house and boss levels in Mario Kart original, are some of the neatest tracks!

ETA: And I hate racing games...

Portal 2

One of my favorite games of all time. It does have awesome level design from both a gameplay perspective and setting the tone of the story. You really felt like you were going back in time to see the old Aperture Science and the whole game felt huge despite it being a pretty linear affair. Valve excels at that.
