When Shrimp has more meat at similar price? What makes Crawfish special?

Some people like crawfish more. Who woulda thunk it?

I love both and the whole crawfish boil process is fun.

I've never ordered a crawfish boil. I've been to crawfish boils and have had crawfish boils though.

Because i like them better?

Plus i enjoy the juice in the heads. You don't get that with Shrimp. And i find crawfish much easier to peel.

I get what you are saying but they are so different so I can see why some prefer one over the other. Shrimp can be a bitch to peel if not cooked just right. Crawfish can be hard to peel but I find they have a lot more room for error on the cooking time. I love to suck the juice out of the claws and you don't get that option with shrimp. Because you can suck the juice and heads on the crawfish you get a lot more flavor and spice than you can ever get from the meat of a shrimp.

You don't really eat crawfish for the meat. If you do you're doing it wrong. Juice and fat is where it's at.

I've ordered boiled crawfish, but not a crawfish boil. I eat boiled crawfish because I like them. That's the same reason I eat boiled shrimp.

Your inlaws can front you the extra money for the crawfish. Everyone wins.

I honestly dont believe people that say they like crawfish better than shrimp. I think it is them trying to protect the sanctity of the "crawfish boil."

Now, in saying that, I enjoy a crawfish boil more than a shrimp boil. I cant explain why, but I do. But the taste in the product isnt even in the same ballpark.

That's pretty dumb honestly. They have significantly different tastes so it's not impossible for someone to prefer crawfish over shrimp. I have a few family members that fall into that category.

You're right. Well done crawfish are much better than well done shrimp IMO.

Shrimp are a hell of a lot harder to peel. They also don't soak up the seasoning as well as crawfish and for me, at least, boiled shrimp need to be complimented with a cocktail or remoulade sauce whereas crawfish are great all by themselves.

Another thing that I can't explain is that if you dump out a pot of boiled shrimp on a picnic table every fly in the state comes swarming in. That's not a problem at an outdoor crawfish boil.
