I'm not here to bash Whole Foods because I'm very happy that they're here. Yesterday I had reason to stop in for the first time in a while and my observation is that it's sort of a shell of its old self. There couldn't have been more than ten people shopping around 4pm, the bar is closed on Mondays, the two right sides of the meat case is now covered with advertising instead of product. Gone are the tri-tip and hangers which I used to see regularly. Duck breast...nope. Squid...nope.

The seafood case looked immaculate as did the produce. They still have their brand going for them, but the place seemed eerily not what it used to be.

Any other observations?

In general, Whole Foods is still doing quite well.

I haven't been to the one in Lafayette, but I never thought it was a great market for them to jump into. If the store isn't doing well, I can see why they put ads out instead of product.

I've been a couple of times. The layout is unusual and the aisles are cramped. The produce section is well maintained but the rest of the store seems disjointed.
I think it'll be hard for Whole Foods to keep a competitive market share in Lafayette because they're not hitting their niche market. Lafayette cooks almost exclusively Cajun and Creole style and I don't see Whole Foods catering and appealing to that market, like Rouses for example, is doing.

I always forget about that place. I've been there a few times and live close, but it just seems overpriced for no apparent reason imo.

I actually really liked the WF bar in Lafayette. They had a decent beer selection when I went about a year ago.

Only thing I've ever bought there was duck fat and they are out of it about 70% of the time
