Whole Foods Buffet

Finally got around to trying it yesterday.
I loved the variety and quality. I tried several items. The cherry chicken, chicken vindaloo and the harissa dish (can't remember what it was called) were excellent.
I liked the coastal cole slaw and okra and tomatoes.
The bad part is the price. At $8.99/pound, it is very expensive. I made some mistakes by getting the steamed cauliflower and pickled beets. Complete ripoff at that price.
They have a nice place to sit and eat, but a downside is standing in line at the grocery checkout counter to pay.
I will go back because it was really tasty, but my meal was $12.60. Just need to be careful and not get things that weigh a lot and are nothing special.

You just have to make wise decision at the bar and you can eat well at a fair price. I used to eat WF just about everyday for lunch. It was the same price as any place in my lunch rotation except for when I go Vietnam. Sometimes you can get out cheap. Grab a couple smoked chicken thighs from the meat department, make a small salad at the bar, and water is always free. It also gave me an opportunity to cruise the beer aisle and stay on top of current releases. Since then craft beer has gone mainstream so I rarely buy it and I've changed my employment to a different company who isn't allowed to to business in Jefferson parish yet.

Baton Rouge's has spiralled downward.. out of control, into a burnt up, dried out mess that you have to scrape out of the bin, with a spatula.

What year was this? Craft beer has been mainstream for at least 5 years now.

Last time I was there, BBQ prices were up, quality was down. They were out of beans 2 out of the last 4 times I was there, and I need to watch them like a hawk when they cut brisket to avoid getting mostly fat.

I've become an expert at the WF buffet, to keep the price reasonable. Rule #1, skip anything on the bone.
I got a salmon crocquete, seasoned rice, and salad for $6.45 last week and it was a decent portion size.

It sounds funny, but I can see that there is a learning curve. What the heck was I thinking by getting pickled beets and steamed cauliflower at $8.99/lb.?

Yep. Made that mistake also.

I have been wanting to try some of the Morrocan dishes but I am a little leery. Last time I went I ended up getting a big salad that was over 15 bucks.

It's a buffet; just get a taste!
The Morrocan dish I had yesterday was delicious. Spice combinations I have never experienced.
Knowing what I know now I would have just loaded up on that and the Vindaloo and been mighty happy.

Every time I have eaten at the Birmingham Whole Foods buffet, it's been dry, bland cardboard food.
Now their pizza on the other hand is delicious.
