I have never seen a Willett 1.75 bottle at the ABC store in Huntsville. But then again I don't go in there a lot.

On a side note I love staying at the Galt House in Louisville.

I'm the same way. Love bourbon, but like a little additional something in there.

How does it compare to the 12 year? I love EC12 but I've only got about half a bottle left of the stuff. Is the EC 9 year worth swinging over there today or should I just hold out for better stuff on Friday?

I grabbed one of the EC 9yrs along with their 10 yr Old Scout pick. I have to say I'm not really impressed at all with their EC pick. Very weak finish and not much up front either. Just my $.02.

Who has a 10 year Old Scout pick?

Astor wine & spirits in NYC. They ship via third party ups. It's a 10 yr single barrel cask strength, but it doesn't have the usual "selected by" label that I've seen on other barrel picks. Just a small tag around the neck (see photo).

Anyone try this yet? They did a limited 2 bottle per store release and people were selling it for $200+ a bottle. Finally died down a bit and I grabbed it for $50. Not bad, but I don't get the hype. They're from Fort Worth so that's probably the hype in DFW

I haven't, but I've yet to be impressed with a Texas whiskey/bourbon.

It's pretty weak tbh I haven't tried many Texas bourbons. I'm just getting into bourbon since I usually stick with scotch.

They're all out of the regular 10 year Old Scout so I may try to get this store pick. Down to my last pour of my original bottle, need reinforcements.

Looks like a new place is taking over the old Lock & Key.
quote:

A group of local investors led by Cardinal Capital principal Rob Powell has acquired the assets of the recently shuttered Lock and Key Whiskey Bar and plan to reopen the establishment at its 5110 Corporate Blvd. location under the new name Hayride Scandal.

In a deal that closed earlier this month, Powell and his partners acquired the furniture, fixtures, equipment and inventory from Lock and Key owners Gary Bynum and Bubba Phillips for an undisclosed price. Brandalyn Tabor and Arthur Lauck, who ran Lock and Key for more than three years, had a management contract with Bynum and Phillips and were the public face of the establishment.

Under its new ownership, Hayride Scandal will have a different look and feel than its predecessor. Powell—who spent years in the marketing and development of several national public companies, including Rainforest Café and Grand Casinos—describes it as a high-end drinking establishment that, as its name suggests, hearkens back to a bygone era. He estimates the partnership will spend some $40,000 overhauling the space.

“We’re going to redo the interior,” he says. “You’ll see some high-back, textured chairs, not so dark, and there will be quite a bit of attention to detail. Not so much the traditional speakeasy but hearkening back to a much more scandalous and casual mindset.”

Hayride Scandal will target professionals and will serve an expanded menu of craft cocktails and spirits. It will also featured a limited menu of bar snacks, but its primary focus will be drinks.

“It won’t be uncommon to find a $14 craft cocktail on the menu,” he says.

Powell and his partners hope Hayride Scandal will be the first of several such establishments in the market. Already they have letters of intent to lease two other spaces if all goes well with their first venture.

“We’re looking to create mixologists who have their own brand,” he says. “We’re planning to grow.”

Hayride Scandal is tentatively scheduled to open in late March.

Is there that much of demand for that in that part of town? Seems like nothing works over there.

I'll give it a whirl. It's not like there's a ton of places in BR with a good bourbon selection.

Agreed. When it comes to BT products, they've got a damn good selection. ER for the everyday drinker and Blanton's or EHTSB for the weekends. Great value. I'm afraid ER will get harder and harder to get long term. Hope I'm wrong. Blanton's and EHTSB used to be easier to find.

I recently bought my first bottle of ehtsb and have really enjoyed it. I think I like Blantons a little better but it's probably splitting hairs. I've gotten to where just about anytime I see a bottle of Blantons I buy it. Just finished this bottle and have one in my stash. Need to be on the look out for another bottle
