Beer for me would be a Ten Fidy or Bourbon County
Brewery harder to say because I've only had 1-3 beers from brewers out of state compared to Louisiana/Mississippi beers....

but maybe Cigar City even though I've never had their "special" beers only Jai Alai, Invasion, Maduro, Jai Alai white oak, and Cubano Style Expresso. If not them then Parish even though I enjoy Ghost and it is the best beer in the state the rest of the lineup is just ok for me. (again everyone has personal preference)

I dig the Wicked Weed. I still have a couple sitting around waiting for the right bottle share.

Speaking of overrated breweries, has anybody heard the status of Deschutes new brewery in Asheville? I heard they were shopping for property.

I don't think Deschutes is overrated. The Abyss may be overrated, but not Deschutes, as a whole. Now that they bottle fresh squeezed, their regular lineup is really good. Red Chair, Fresh Squeezed, Mirror Pond, Black Butte, and Obsidian are all really solid. Not necessarily great, but really solid.

If you go to their brewpub, they almost always have some really good experimental beers to try. Their brewpub is awesome, as well.

Living in Portland, Deschutes doesn't get the love that Rogue gets here. It's weird.

That Dawn taste like cigs and Zima with a green Jolly Rancher if I recall. Assuming you meant that Dawn.

Nope. Definitely a different Dawn. More Starkist and EVOO. Weird, but tasty.

You still going to Eugene this week?

Yeah, I find Prairie beers overpriced. But they have all been really good. At least I know I'm going to get a great beer from them. Mikkeller on the other hand...

Well I've personally never had any of the Bourbon County brand beside to Stout and barleywine, I had the sisters on tap but that was at a different time for me. I hadn't acquired a taste for that type of beer yet. I am sure if I had them on tap now my thoughts would be different than before.

Everything I've had from WW has been fantastic IMO

And they do make some good ones. Black Angel is great. But so is Tart of Darkness, and it's right there with it in price. And I think their DIPA is good as well, glad they are starting to bottle it. I also like Oblivion and Genesis. Oh and last time I was there I thought the Gose was really well done, but draft only.

But so many others from the line-up like Amorous, Bretticent, Serenity, and a few others just don't do a ton for me.

The question is not whether it's just fricking bad, it's whether or not it is overrated. And I think by a strict definition, WW fits it. I'd say that in terms of best NC breweries, places like NoDa, Green Man, and Olde Hickory are all just as good. I also have my eye on Triple C and Mystery Brewing Co. as some potentially really solid brewers that are on their way up.

Parish would have been on my short list before Ghost, but I can't say they are overrate and make the best beer in state.

IMO Bruery is far and away the most overrated brewery. Most of their top rated beers are a blend or adjunct version of Black Tuesday, Sour in the Rye, or the latest anniversary beer.

Anything that isn't one of those beers is likely to be infected, give you the diabeetus, or both.

as far as the BA list is concerned, Hoppy Birthday (Alpine) at #64 is my choice. I have ordered that beer on three separate occasions, and it has never hit my palate quite right

I've been having a bottle of Tart of Darkness and their Autumn ale in my fridge for over a year. I guess i need to get myself an insulin shot.

I can't say a beer is overhyped when it gets 5 caps on untapped. It delivered what I was expecting to say it deserved 5 caps

IMO Tart of Darkness is one of the better beers they make and isn't horribly priced.

Good luck with that Autumn Maple. Belgian Strong + pumpkin spice + maple syrup and molasses =
