don't get much out of any of Bayou Teche or Tin Roof beers.

no one rates tin roof very highly. I like parade ground and Ivan (not wax worthy). Turnrow, hefe, and juke joint are drinkable.

I really like some Bayou Teche beers. I will buy Cocodrie, Loup gorou and peach IPA over most beers from Louisiana. The crawfish saison is very drinkable

but then they do this

quote:

How did they not test multiple bottles before they hit distribution? Especially for a special release like your 5 year Anniversary? The lactobacillus here is doing horrid, infectious things to a base Berliner Weisse that seems to lack any integrity to begin with. Heavy off flavors of: DMS, isovaleric acid and butyric acid. The fruit was also not treated well and could be a contributing culprit.

The thing is, they got the label almost right: smells like that Opossum rummaging through garbage, but only if that Opossum died in the process.

Here's what I'm getting. Nose is immediately copious vomit then waves of hot garbage, Bogalusa Louisiana, prank stink bombs, decomposing animal carcasses, spoiled yogurt or ranch dressing, farts, sweaty feet, moldy fruit, a festering sewer, rotten Stilton cheese and rotten butter.

Can you believe what I'm about to say next? I actually tasted it, twice! And that decision is a regrettable one. Tasted like a liquid landfill.

to answer the original question

Beer:

Some of the Bourbon County stuff. Its all really good but not Ill wait all day outside the store for it good.

brewery:

Praire, I am basing this purely on price point. I really want to know why everyone of their beers is nearly double a typical breweries. I love bomb! and all but i am over paying $8-$12 a bottle.

One of the things I really like about them is how much they experiment. Bound to make some bad beers when you do that.

I say the same about Bayou Teche. Their barrel aged stout is the best stout I have had in La.

Beer- Green Flash WC IPA. I don't know how rated it is. Or how most beer is rated. But back the day I saw people around here saying it was good. It tastes like Dawn. And it's one of the most readily available ipas back home. They all taste like Dawn. frick that beer

When it first came here it was great. They were fresh, and new to the scene. Green Flash were some of the first newcomers to Louisiana's beer market. But, as more breweries arrived here, and as palates have changed, it's little more than average. I wouldn't know if it is still good because they rarely stamp a date on the bottle. Majority of the bottles are very old.

The soapy taste might mean you don't care for hops. Or maybe it was just an old bottle. But at one point, it was a great ipa.

The most overrated beer I have ever had was:

quote:

15 The Abyss
Deschutes Brewery
American Double / Imperial Stout / 11.00% ABV

I'd take 10 Fidy over the abyss 100 out of 100 times.

Damn, I guess I should have read your post fully. Yes, the abyss and Jester king would be both of my choices.

I just bought one of those a few months ago, never had it before. The bottle does say best after the end of the year. Do y'all think its gonna get better with age?

I was really excited about it...

Brewery? Rogue. I have defended Rogue in the past, because they do make some damn good beers. Some. The majority of their beers are misses.

I hear people talk about it like it's at the top of the heap of breweries, and that a beer is going to be good, just because Rogue brewed it (and it comes in a cool bottle).

I think the majority of the people who worship at the Rogue alter are non-mavens and don't know their beer. They are either trying to sound knowledgeable, or they are stuck in that transition between BMC and craft beer.

Most overrated beer? Pliny the Younger. Great beer, but nothing can live up to that hype. Notorious is better, for me, and I've had them back-to-back. Notorious doesn't get the hype - mainly because it's available all the time.

I've had it 3 or 4 times and the older the better IMO.

I asked this question before. They use an importer as a distributor, is what i was told. Thus their prices are high. I've heard the prices of their beers are reasonable in N. Texas and Oklahoma. I really like Prairie's beers, but you are right, i'm not forking over $10 for a 12 oz, or $15 for a slightly larger than 12 oz. beer.

Bomb was great.
Funky Amarillo is my favorite.
Gold is also great
America was great.

The only beer i've had from Prairie i didn't care for was Limo Tint.

But the price keeps me from buying more.

Bruery, Mikkeller (and Evil Twin!), and Deschutes' The Abyss would all be on my list. Stuff that gets a lot of praise but I either didn't care for it or thought it had too great of a turd potential to risk buying another one.

Another is Wicked Weed. Some of their stuff is legitimately good, but most of their bottles retail for around $12-$15 for a 500mL bottle and just fail to really excite me. But that's another case of a small distribution footprint creating higher demand for it.

I don't get your view on Hopslam at all. I taste the malt bomb when it isn't fresh. When drank within weeks of release it's just as juicy and fruity as Ghost is.

Most overrated imo is Lost Abbey/ Port Brewing. Every single thing I have ever had fmor there was an overrrated piecce of shite (if it was even carbonated). Had three different bottles come from their brewery shipped knowingly flat apparently.

Wow

Everything I've had from WW has been fantastic IMO. I haven't had as many as you, obviously, but I've probably had about 15 of their beers.

That Dawn taste like cigs and Zima with a green Jolly Rancher if I recall. Assuming you meant that Dawn.

A beer i didn't care for, that i heard great things about was Lakewood Brewing The Temptress. Don't know if the beer was old or what, but it had that mikkeller taste to it. Old and left on a truck for too long.
