Boiled salt meat and potatos, then he would add mayo to the broth..... surprisingly it was pretty good.

That’s my FIL. The “simple” breakfast for him is boudin and to order omelettes with grits

Dad never did anything but grill. I am the one that cooks in my family. When I think of redneck trashy, I think of simple, quick comfort foods that aren't particularly good for you. The ones I make are corned beef hash using canned corned beef and pot roast.

My dad would eat crackers and milk, but he'd put chocolate milk in a sauce pan, warm it up, then add crackers.

From age 10 to 17 it was just me and dad in the house.

During the summer he would tell me to shoot my B.B. gun that day. That was code for me to shoot birds that day and have them breasted out so he could cook “ blackbird jambalaya”. Was pretty good.

Other meal he was fond of and cooked a lot was whole roasted duck with orange marmalade. Usually whole wood ducks. He used way too much orange marmalade. Not too good. Don’t eat orange marmalade to this day.

My dad is a good cook but there was one thing that my mom called prison gruel. It was basically just cooked down onions and peppers with any meat added. It always came out ugly and brown but delicious.

Hungry man TV dinners or chicken pot pies. It's like he was trained in Paris or something.

A slice or two of bread. Topped with Van Camp pork and beans and Tillamook cheese. Fine dining there.

My dad is a good cook but in a pinch it was camp beans. Browned ground meat, sautéed trinity, couple cans of beans, with brown sugar, Barbq sauce. Pretty good

Mom was our cook. The only things I ever saw dad cook were BBQ and grilled chicken and beef and Sunday breakfast, which always included bacon, canned biscuits with the bottoms dipped in bacon fat and scrambled eggs.

For his eggs, he would melt butter in the pan, crack the eggs into the butter as if he was making sunny side up fried eggs and not scramble them until the whites were pretty much cooked. The result was scrambled eggs that looked like separately cooked whites and yolks. Most of the time I crack them into a bowl, add cream, whip them fluffy, preheat butter and keep them moving in the pan to make fluffy creamy eggs, but I still love them cooked dad's way.

He did not cook French fries but loved French fry sandwiches.

My father was one of the most honest, hard working men I have ever known. I had huge respect for my father and really miss him.

Hell yeah, my mom made this. You reminded me of it. I'm gonna cook the shite out of this this weekend. A nice white gravy over white toast. Great easy meal

My dad was always a TV dinner, pizza delivery, etc. style. I honestly can't remember much he made. Maybe like bacon wrapped doves, he'd do some wild game stuff on occasion.

My dad can't cook to save his life. Literally, if my mom goes before him he might starve.

That said, he would occasionally make a "Dagwood sandwich" with fricking potted meat and various other shite piled on top. ..mayonnaise, sweet pickles, cheese, etc

It forced me to learn to cook for myself because that damn thing smelled like feet and vomit
