depending on their age, I'd stop feeding them milk and just feed them a healthy diet. They don't need it. Marketing has caused you to think that they need it. That is a lie.

Just curious as the where you received this info? Worked in orthopedics for 6yrs and our head surgeon was a child specialist. Graduated from Georgetown and did her child specialty fellowship at Johns Hopkins... Any kid that we saw and or did surgery on was informed to drink milk everyday. Just curious if she was lying to 30 kids parents a week?

Milk is just an easy way to get extra calcium, protein, vitamins, and what not. Aren't humans the only species to continue to drink milk after infancy?
I'd rather eat my nutrients personally.

Whole, but I only use one pint per month.. just for the few times I eat cereal or make mashed potatoes. Most of the time there is no milk in the house.

At Starbucks I add Steamed Skim to my Quad Espresso.

If I had a kid I'd raise him on Skim. It only tastes watery if you are accustomed to Whole.

2%

There are only 2 of us and a galln always goes bad before we finish it, so we started taking our gallon of milk and filling 7(?) empty 20 oz Ozarka water bottles and freezing them. Then we take a bottle out of the freezer when the one in the fridge gets opened. There usually is slushy ice in it when we use it, and icy cold milk on my shredded mini-wheat to me is a real treat.

Never have spoiled milk now. When company comes, we'll buy a gallon of 2% if they are milk drinkers or if the grandkids come, we'll buy two gallons of chocolate milk for them.

Tried almond and soy milk and just don't care for either on my cereal and that is the only thing I use milk for.

Occasionally I get a taste of whole milk and I can't drink it. Tastes like whipping cream to me.

That was my reaction when I switched to skim many years ago and then tried whole. Whole milk is really not healthy at all. The difference between whole and 2% is insignificant. If you want to drink healthy milk you can't do either one.

Took me a while to switch from whole to skim years ago, but now I find whole to be too rich. I put my glass of milk in the freezer and get it good and cold until it gets some ice on top. So darn good.

i wouldn't call it lying. Her schooling likely taught her that it was necessary. But, like someone else has really pointed out, milk is a quick fix to give certain nutrients to children. A balanced, healthy diet would be far better than feeding your kid milk because "it does a body good", or "your bones will fall apart if you don't drink it."

The idea that growing children need milk is one that was put out by the milk industry. Their marketing has done wonders. And I bet if you looked it up, those industries probably funded a good deal of the research from the past that said that kids really needed to drink it, a lot.

Where did I get this info? My brain.

We drank skim at our house for many years and then the wife switched to 2% - I am not sure why and I drink so little milk, other than on cereal that it made no difference to me.

We cook with 2% or whipping cream. 2% buttermilk for us, only for cooking - never got into drinking it straight.

Whipping cream makes some serious custard ice cream. That's for sure.

I have been using some almond milk in my coffee the last week or so. It's not too bad. I want to get a cheese cloth and make my own almond milk. I've heard it is delicious.

btw, whole milk is like a fine wine when compared to skim, 2% or any other low fat alternative. Everything else taste like water. But, they're all gross.
