The wife and I went to Walker's for Valentine lunch today and had our standard.

Redfish Anna (an old photo, not from today)

We both love good fish dishes and this is by far our favorite meal at Walker's. During our meal we got into a discussion as to what might be the best fish dish available in Jackson, MS.

At least a few of you guys have knowledge of the culinary offerings of Jackson. Anyhow, what do you have? What is your favorite seafood (fish) dish in Jackson? I have no idea how many times I might eat the Walker's dish, but what should we try that might be nice?

I'll be in Jackson for my daughter's volleyball tourney this weekend. Any rec's would be appreciated. I haven't been to Jackson in 25 years... the last time LSU played Ole miss there.

How much do you want to spend? Where will you be? Do you want the best Jackson has to offer, or quick food? Standard? Quirky? $$$ limit?

Redfish Anna and the ahi tuna, both @ Walker's, per Mrs Coater

Parlor Market has great fish dishes but they change their menu frequently. There's a really good salmon dish with lentils right now @ Seafood R'evolution

I had a really good pecan crusted grouper from Ely's in old town ridgeland a couple of weeks ago,

My wife is a fan of the Bronzed Redfish at Lou's. The smoked salmon app is great too.

I gotta go old school on this one... AYCE fried catfish at Jerry's catfish house in Florence.

I dare you to name a better fried catfish in the whole state.

Bonus points for the giant igloo.

Lemon butter with just a (tiny-tiny) touch of tomato.

Almost no tomato.

I'm sorry - and crab

It is funny, there is a second Walker's operation in Jackson, called Local 463. Their version of Redfish Anna - the exact same dish - is called Redfish 463.

I prefer Walker's, which has been in the same little building in Fondren for many many years.

I may try that tomorrow. My neighbor caught a bunch of specs and redfish Sunday and she gave me a ziplock of each.

The redfish at the Mayflower was pretty damn good ten years ago. Haven't had it in a while though.

They very lightly season the redfish with salt and pepper, then dust it in flour and sauté them in butter. They get a light crispness on the edges of the fillets which is nice.

The potatoes (mash) and Haricot Verts are nice and a part of this dish we really like. The Haricot Verts are blanched lightly and then shocked in Ice water to retain the color. Then they sauté them in garlic butter. On the plate, they have a really nice crispness and from the butter and garlic a wonderful flavor.

The biggest challenge with this dish is to get as much of the sauce as possible off of the plate and into MD.

I could drop by and when you do this and taste test the dish for you?????

Yes - Most everything at Mayflower is good.

Maybe no one will remember the Wagon Wheel Club, behind and upstairs from Mayflower.

Mayflower is a famous Jackson late night eatery.

I'll add the thin-fried catfish @ mermaid cafe as a sleeper pick

We used to go to Jerry's a lot. It was my FIL's favorite place on earth to eat. I don't think we have been back there since he died. Jerry's probably has the best fillets I have ever eaten and lots of good memories.

All you can eat Catfish, is my enemy, because I can eat more catfish than I can eat. They days of all I can eat of anything are over forever, by choice.

These days, we go to Moss Creek Fish House, across from Bass Pro Shop and (sadly) now instead of all I can eat, I order the small fillets plate (four tiny strips), usually with slaw and Turnip Greens. Growing old is the pits, but at this point in my life, I need to eat as smart as possible.

The next time you go to Jerry's, eat a big bowl of slaw and about ten fillets for me.

The mermaid is Nick's new place and their food is OK-good. I guess it hurt him too much to totally get out of the business. The original Nick's on Lakeland was maybe the best Mississippi Restaurant ever. How I wish it was still there - Butter tower and all.

His website has a recipe for his pork (shoulder or butt) dry rub. He says it is a Sunday Night Special at their house. It looks good and I want to try it sometime soon.

Second may have been Dennery's, which is also gone.

The University Club likely gave both of them a run for #1.

It is also gone. Sigh....

I came in here to say Walkers when I saw the title, so I guess I'll see my way out.
