I'll be eating a couple meals in Memphis the next few weeks, taking my dad too . I want to know the best BBQ to eat at. I was thinking Interstate one day and Rendezvous the other.

What other places should we consider?

TIA.

Never been, but many of the reports that I have read are that Jim Neely's Interstate BBQ ranks as one of the best for Memphis.

Skip Rendevous. Went a few years back, I thought it was decent but everyone else we went with was extremely disappointed. I don't know if they built it up to be something better than it was or what. But you can probably find better places, unfortunately I don't know them.

Rendezvous is very inconsistent, but on a good day, the ribs are excellent.

My favorites, in order:

Central
Payne's
A&R
BBQ Shop
Neely's
Interstate

Cozy Corner has an outstanding Cornish hen.

The original Corkys is still my favorite. I lived there for 6 months and tried them all. Some may depend on what you wanna eat though. Some have better ribs or brisket, while others may have better chicken or pork.

Blues City Cafe on Beale St is the only place I've been in Memphis, but I thought it was very good. They have steaks and tamales too, because they started out as a Doe's Eat Place back in the early 90's.

This is a very good list. I'd move BBQ shop to the top though. IMHO it's BBQ shop and central and then everyone else in Memphis right now. Also, stay away from neely's.

I make it to Memphis occasionally, and haven't tried most on this list. But a friend did show me the BBQ Shop, and it's so good that I'll go there every time before I try another place.

Went to Marlowe's Saturday afternoon. We had a slab of ribs, brisket plate and a pulled pork sandwich. The ribs had a nice smoke ring and flavor and were cooked just right. The brisket may have a little overcooked and dry and the pulled pork was good. My only issue was the sauce. It was very overpowering. The brisket was covered in sauce which drowned out the beef flavor. The ribs and pork were sauced OK. Other than that it was a pretty cool place.

The best I remember, the sauce tastes like liquid smoke at BBQ Shop, Neely's, and Interstate, which is not my preference.
