Just looking for some new ideas for holiday entertaining. We usually do various types of mustards, chutneys etc. A variety of cheeses (we buy various types from the bargain bin at Whole foods.) A mix of crackers, salami etc.

By the way if you ever see Red dragon cheese buy it immediatly. It is a soft spreadable Welsh chedear with mustard seed and ale.crazy good.

Pickle some things. It is so easy to pickle stuff and it is good. I like pickled red onions, pickled green strawberries, pickled green beans, pickled pearl onions, etc.

I had a pickled egg for the first time a year ago, and loved it.

Grapes. Almonds. Macadamia nuts.

I never put apple slices because they discolor, but I wonder if some lemon juice would keep them pretty?

I love anything pickled as well. I have been living on pickled green tomatoes from Whole Foods for a few months.

It should. I crush a vitamin c tablet in some water to prevent discoloration when I'm dehydrating apples. Works well.

Shallots and garlic are so good. Love the red onions as well. Pickled stuff on a cheese board is an excellent palate cleanser.

Any fresh fruits go well and a savory like olives. I like figs or fig preserves, a good honey, good crackers (spend your money and get good ones) and I like a bread like a baguette. This gives options.

I like soft triple creams and bleu's along with a good hard salty cows milk.

Lamb chopper is a very good one.

And open some good wines.

Candied Cayenned pecans

Use brown sugar, cayenne, vanilla extract with two egg whites whisked.

Coat the pecans with the mixture then bake around 350 for 20 minutes or so

Couple shots of bourbon help as well.

Speaking of which, bourbon balls might be a good idea.

Man, I love a good cheese board.

I'll have some hard white cheddar, pepper jelly, olives, good salami and a sliced up baguette. Enjoy with red wine or IPA beer

If adding meat, head cheese is the obvious answer. Also braunschweiger is a good choice to me.
