Was searching through FDB to see the mavens' comments on Deep Ellums IPA and DIPA since I spotted some at a Spec's yesterday, as I was yearning for some GF Palate Wrecker. The search pulled up a 2012 thread by Lonestar.

LINK /

Well 2012 was before Ghost came out, as well as Yellow Rose and some others. I'd be interested to see everyone's thoughts three years later. I know my eyes have been opened greatly in the past few years, even just the past year and a half living in Texas.

I'd like to separate IPA (can include Rye, Black, Farmhouse styles) from DIPA, so we get to see a Top 3 for each. I'd certainly appreciate seeing everyone's favorites to hopefully give me an idea of new ones to seek out, rather than all of you just being some downvoting mofos.

Mine in no particular order:

IPAs

LaCumbre Elevated
CC Jai Alai
LP Yellow Rose

Honorable Mention: FW Union Jack

DIPA
GF West Coast
FW Double Jack
Parish Ghost

Honorable Mention: Karbach Hop Delusion (Tough to leave DFH Burton Baton out)

Contribute or downvote away!

Was my next honorable mention. Pained me to leave it out.

My 2012 IPA list would have probably been: SN Torpedo, SN Celebration and DFH 90 Min.

Amazing how three more years, coupled with reading suggestions from this board, has contributed to trying a shitload more beers, and having more options.

wait, we're counting ZD as an IPA, because if so, it definitely makes my list

You must have had an old bottle or something because me and you normally have somewhat similar tastes in beer, especially IPAs, and ZD is a top 5 beer (overall) for me

I freaking love it

Yea, I had a couple westbrook IPAs before and thought it was okay. Last summer I caught a 6er of it that was only about 10 days old. It was incredible.

You catch it fresh, it's really hard to beat.

Yeah there's just something about ZD that I just have a strange reaction to. Has a very soapy flavor to me. Kind of like people have that reaction to cilantro something.

I'll be headed down to Palm Beach next week and will have access to Bell's and Cigar City. Woot woot. I'll be drinking my share of Two-Hearted and Jai Alai, as well as some Dogfish Head.

Yeah, fresh Westbrook is great. I thought about including it in my top 3. Freshness at the time of cosumption goes a long way in how people will split hairs between these beers.
