I went to one at Gautreau's and had a really good time, and also met some good business contacts.

What ages are most of the eat club patrons? Is it a lot of business type professionals that attend?

It was a good range of ages. I was at a table of 8 and the ages were low 30s to mid 50s.

I don't really care about age though. I can have a great conversation and make great contacts with people of any age.

From all walks of life? Did you attend more than one of these? Which one did you go to?

I really do a horrible job at trying the places along that strip.

On Magazine? Basin is much better than the surrounding places.

I wouldn't say from all walks of life. People from all walks of life can't afford $70-$90 per person for dinner. Everyone seemed to be professionals. Some were foodies, some were not. I had great conversation with everyone, and it was a good time.

I've only been to one and it was at Gautreau's. I'm been meaning to make it to another one, but just haven't. I'm considering the one at Vincent's, but October is so busy for me.

You mentioned it's 70-90 bucks. Does the higher price include something extra?

The price differs depending on the host restaurant and how many courses are served. A 4 course dinner at Impastato's would be a lower price than say a 5 course one at Gautreau's.

The prices that I've seen always seem very fair for the restaurant and what you're getting. And you definitely get plenty of wine.

If you can afford the price tag and you feel like it's your cup of tea, then I feel like it's worth it.

If you really don't think it's possible or even likely a German Sub came up the Mississippi, meet me on the OT to discuss.

I'll be waiting for your post...

I take it you didn't call his show.

I think it's highly unlikely that a German Uboat would make it very far past the mouth of the Mississippi River without running aground. Do you even bar pilot bro?

It still seems hard to believe they could make it 40 miles up river without running around. That would put it around Buras area if I had to guess.

That link is proof that that one dude said they went 40 miles up from the mouth of the river.

Sort of like when someone claims to have seen bigfoot or a UFO.

That is the deepest point in the river.

Ship channel is kept around 45ft deep from New Orleans to mouth of river. WW2 days it was probably kept at less than 40 ft.

Christ I ran that river from 1980-2003 from Venice Marina to Port Eads and my arse hit a mud flat or a sand bar nearly every time. Mostly when I was running in the fog though and drinking.

I've been to two eat clubs but both before Katrina. Vincent's and Pampos. I had a chow number years ago too but can't remember the number. It's a good time and as nik said depends on the restaurant for price but he tells you that going in. Also he has always brought several bottles of his own wine and always shares.

He's not near the douche (although he can be) that he is made out to be. He's quirky, a dick, confrontational, nerdy and really pretty funny sometimes if you just take it with a grain of salt. Do an eat club and he's very personable and genuinely happy you have joined him.

And he is very in tune with what's going on, being said about him and whatnot. A lot is generated by him because his livelihood depends on it. (you call that living?)He sells his own advertising and that is how me makes his money. I tip my hat to the guy (warts and all) for doing something many of us on this board would enjoy doing if we could make a good living at.

As irrelevant as a lot of people here want him to be we are on page 4 of a week old thread discussing his attitude towards "poor boy" and in a month we will discuss his turkey brine in depth.

No publicity is bad publicity. Just ask Charlie Sheen.
