while I'm not a fan of tilapia either, that article reeks of bullshite

It's ok to not like something just because you don't like it

I agree that tilapia sucks, but the article is a bunch of bullshite about fish farming. The author wants us to eat wild caught fish, but that has just as many drawbacks as farm raised fish.

Agreed it's some BS in the article......Just detest all the people who tout tilapia as being something great......it isn't.

The issue with farmed fish is that it’s significantly unhealthier than the wild counterpart.

Yeah, this is way to broad a statement to be considered factual.

Also, the more important comparison would be crappy tilapia vs fast food.

That is the more likely substitute. It's better for the fast food diner to eat tilapia then another night at McDonalds.

I've read the article before. It is complete horseshite. It's like that shite the foodbabe comes out with saying everything is deadly to you.

Now talapia isn't a bad fish. It's just a tasteless fish. I eat it every other week at home, when i want to cook something quick. It's usually blackened or almond/parmesan crusted and it comes out great.

Life IS too short to eat crappy tasteless fish though when there are so many better fresh local alternatives

Yes, Tilapia would not be my first choice at the fish market. There are definitely more flavorful fish out there. But it is fish and has less fat than hamburger. Just because it is farmed, does not automatically make it bad. There is nothing wrong with feeding a fish soy beans. They are a plant, just like algae and water plants.

The way we harvest fish, the day may come where there are no more wild fish. Then Problem Solved. Folks will fight each other to buy tilapia then.

Tilapia is garbage but article you linked also seems like garbage.

About the only valid claim in that article is "increased exposure to antibiotics and pesticides" from eating farmed raised Tilapia. But you get that risk with all farm raised foods including plants. The GMO and imflamation claims seem like total bull shite espcially with no source documentation.

FWIW, I avoid Tilapia like the plague simply because it taste like dog shite. But I do love farm raised catfish and farm raised salmon. In fact, farm raised catfish is likely much healthier than the wild caught version. I mean, the farm raised versions are raised on a dog food diet, not exposed to heavy metal contamination and even if they are they don't live long enough to accumulate toxins in their meat like wild caught catfish.

Ocean bream, as my father affectionately calls them. Abundant, but not very enjoyable to eat (relative to other fish).

I've never had it. I've always heard it's the worst fish you can eat. It's basically a shite fish.

I visited a tilapia farm and was shocked to see all the fish poop in the water. It smelled pretty bad. That sight/smell is why I'll never eat tilapia.

Tilapia is not garbage. It's simply tasteless. It tastes like what you make with it. Think of Asian dishes adding Tofu. If you want to make a stir fry and have lots of veggies and spices but you need some protein you can add Tilapia.

It's hip to hate Tilapia. There's nothing wrong with it. They are vegetarians. Should be the favorite fish of this board.
