I just watched Ty Pennington and some big girl rebuild a place in Virginia, complete with a bunch of cheap decorations and crying family members which I would guess are carrying the mortgage.

This show along with all of the apparently so called reality shows have really made me rethink my commitment to cable tv. Today's supreme court ruling probably pushed Cupcake Wars into an Emmy nomination.

I'm disappointed and lost. Can the Two Hot Tamales, Two Fat Ladies and Molto Mario please come back?

Do you like this type of entertainent or do you actually like to see someone cook and learn about food?

I prefer LPB3 Create. They actually cook and teach..

The forum is open.

I turned on food network a few days ago and the Pioneer Woman was making soup. It was called 7 can soup. Directions were to open 7 cans of various things, dump in a pot, and bring to a boil.

Remind me again why anyone who really loves food and cooking would go to that channel?

She's a bit thick but that isn't such a knock. That Alex gal is a beast.

I just don't get the direction but I'm guessing I'm the minority. I'm not the demo they are looking for but for gods sake it is called the Food Network.

What the hell do you have against Walker's Diner of Farmville, Virginia?

I was a big fan years ago, but I never watch anymore. Best food TV now is on LPB. America's Test Kitchen, Cooks Country, a few others.

The stuff on FN is just "reality" crap these days.

Show was awesome. They did some serious cooking.
They were hilarious.

Not a chance. Paterson smoked/drank/ate herself to death.

I can't deal with Guy eating in the prep area on triple D.

FN is basically shows about eating and goofy cooking competitions. Chopped is good, and I'm not gonna lie, I love DDD.

Cooking channel is the more instructional of the two, but they don't have nearly the cooking talent that FN had in it's earlier years. It's basically aimed at people that are novice home cooks. Cooking Channel has all the Good Eats episodes at least.

The Cooking Channel has some good shows. Extra Virgin and Dinner at Tiffani's are pretty good.

More rationality. Less reaching.

Probably time to get over yourself.

Pepin episodes and cooking with Julia make create awesome.
Nick Stillino is funny, but you rarely learn anything from him.

I miss Good Eats.

I'll sometimes watch Chopped (the teen ones are fun) and DDD. I don't really watch much else on there.

Food TV went whore for reality/cooking competition shows, just as did HGTV for the same in design on a dime/etc..They both wanted sheep, simpletons, aka tv ratings.

They have their offshoots in Cooking Channel and DIY for their "how to" shows, and yet even they are now also filled with fluff stuff on the schedules.

Much like YouTube for music videos/songs instead of the MTV and VH1 channels that no longer air them. The straight-up cooking shows and home repair/renovation types, have largely been relegated to YouTube, PBS Create, genre specific tv tiered channel status.

As much as I love DDD or Love It or List It,etc..as a whole I enjoyed FoodTv and HGTV's overall schedules much more so about 15 to 20 years ago.

It seems if you want to want to stay a Top 50 Cable channel, you have to dumb it down, and keep quickly flowing for the masses.

It's a damn shame. Shows like Mind of a Chef, that really make the audience connect with the content, are being shown on smaller networks to smaller audiences. Meanwhile donut and cupcake competitive cooking shows are being broadcast on the bigger networks. One can learn more about cooking by watching 2 hours of PBS on a Saturday than a from watching a weeks worth of FN programming.

Chopped is pretty much all I watch there these days. Food Network Star, too.

Honestly, I must seem to only check what's on at the times of DDD and Chopped. I don't seem to see other choices ... oh yeah, Alton Brown's show that's similar to Chopped except contestants can buy options to screw the other chefs over.
