I feel like I drove by a week ago and Rotolo's was open and busy. Now it's being renovated and there's a sign out front for The Dive Bar. Anybody have any news on this new place? Judging by the name and location it doesn't seem like it will be very impressive.

I loved that Rotolos location when I lived near campus.

Why would Rotolo's close down? That place was always packed.

Bad management or just new owners and new things?

Rotolos is moving, not closing down. There was a thread a while back but I can't find it.

Rotolos is moving to near the Burbank/Ben Hur new apartment developments. I'm surprised they shut down so soon, the new place doesn't look like it's even broken ground yet.

Although I was in Baton Rouge for the last home game I have a feeling I won't recognize the place when I return for Jacksonville State in September. There has been a ton of changes and new developments in the past 8 months.

This is correct. The Dive bar will be run by a manager from the former Rotolo's. Also, I don't think they changed much as far as build out which is why the turn around time was so short.

Is it going to be a bar that tries to compete with Tigerland ala Bogies, whatever the former Shady's is now, etc.?

Looks like they opened yesterday. Anybody go or hear anything? I saw a pic where they were serving chili cheese fries and burgers but basically all I got.

nah IIRC Tim has moved on. Michael and Ashley are running it now.

Don't think they are trying to compete with Tigerland as they will be serving food, lunch etc. most of their late night business was from service industry in the area. That's why I'm familiar with it.

I live here (by campus) year round and I barely recognize the place.

Recently I came home from work only to notice for the first time that a multi-storied parking garage had been erected about a couple hundred yards from my front door.

you must live off of either east boyd or stanford. That complex going up on East boyd is going to wreak havoc on the traffic in an already bad area

The no gameday parking on Nicholson killed a lot of business.

Bingo.

I can't even turn out of my complex between the hours of 4pm-6pm.
People start getting angry and laying on their car horns at about 5pm.
I've practically got it down to a science by now

That parking garage is going to be for a high rise condo complex?

So it's mostly just another burger restaurant?
