This crap needs to stop. I see reviews and descriptions in which a particular dish is referred to as "boring", no matter how good the taste and/or preparation may be. This ain't right...this attitude makes the writer sound juvenile, inexperienced...one who is trying too damn hard.

No dish properly prepared, one that tastes great and is executed well by the preparer is "boring". Simple can be done excellently...classics can be prepared wonderfully...a dish doesn't have to do cartwheels, or come with a surprise inside, to excite and entertain a diner. A properly executed dish, no matter how simple, no matter how "classic" should be appreciated. Stop with this boring bullshite.

I have a better haircut than him. Otherwise, spot on.

It's a societal issue. Everything has to be new and exciting.
Probably part of the reason we are so fat as a nation. Meals are not for sustenance but an event. We are obsessed with food.
I'm not throwing stones. I'm guilty too and trying to break away from it.

Otis...I appreciate your view. I can make something like shepherd's pie and it may not be pretty but it's damn good. IRL people just want to eat good food. This "chopped" way of cooking isn't what normal home kitchens do.

In some ways of course. But it's still a bunch of people just talking about what they like and don't like.

I'd trust yelp/spoon more than a "professional" critic because they are normal people. Not that I trust an individual review but once there are 100 reviews, I can make a good judgement.

That's when I stop reading. You should give it a try. I stopped watching and reading political news over the past several months and now the sky is bluer, my blood pressure is lower and I crap regular.

I agree. I only read military review sites. Civilians are stupid.

I think what a lot of people refer to as "boring" is a dish that tastes like something they make at home. If you order a dish in a nice restaurant, you expect the chef to take it to a whole 'nother level.

When I eat out, I usually order dishes that I can't make at home, in order to avoid boring.

The firt one looks like Kufta Kabob, I get it from the Lebanese. It's really good. Ground meat and spices cooked on skewers served with rice and Hummus. Lula Kabob (spiced ground lamb) is even better.
