The guy in that article seemed like he wanted the market "built down" to the community. But that area has cheap markets already. They are there, they cannot claim to be undeserved. What this is, is something we need and don't have much of. Call it an upscale food court, or a hipster market. It will help attract people to the neighborhood.
Before this, every time St. Roch was mentioned, it was in reporting a crime.

I agree with all that Nap. I just wished they would have put in more parking.

That guy beats down on everything that happens in the St. Roch/Bywater/Marigny area. With that said, the area does need a full sized grocer. Anyone who thought that a place as relatively small as the St Roch Market was going to serve that function suffered from delusions from the beginning. The produce vendor has promised to bring in more product, once she gets a feel for what will sell. The seafood vendor has also stated that he will do the same. Hopefully, at some point in the distant future, the grocery store that was located at the corner of St Claude and Elysian Fields will return. But, anyone beckoning for the halcyon days of the old Market, surely never visited it then, because the place stunk, was full of flies, and its novelty item was fish swimming in an aquarium that was filled in water that appeared to come straight from the damn Mississippi River.

Looks pretty good, but I foresee lots of ironic mustaches and Mac books.
Hahaha but so true

Robert's was approved to come there. I'm not sure what happened.

Yeah - there was a settlement under which Robert's actually got title to the property. All that has happened in the past 2 years is that someone erected a fence around the perimeter in order to keep out the people waiting for one of those ultra-cheap busses that go to Houston.

Id rather the hipsters than whatever those animals are that shoot and kill each other(white, black, red, yellow, green, doesn't matter what color they are) THEY need to get out of our city.
Just keep it clean and it will flourish. Great for the area

So is it a farmer's market or a grocery store?

Neither. Basically lots of vendors selling different dishes. Im at the oyster bar right now and they have east coast and west coast oysters here although they aren't cheap. Had a Nigerian cowfoot stew from another place

It's a food court. When I called it "hipsterfied" I didn't even mean that disparagingly. Basically, I'm thiinking, that's probably the best possible sort of food court.
We will see if a food court in the middle of hood has staying power, hipsterfied or otherwise.

Wasn't it a Robert's before the storm ?

After having gone there today, if you don't go for the food, you need to at least go for the people watching. good lord.

Do any of y'all know how this works? Are the Launch Pad guys leasing the building from the city then subleasing to vendors? FEMA paid for the renovations right?

My guide took me there when I was in town in March. I was all excited, put on my best chuck taylors, waxed my bicycle and my stache... and then.....kaput.....it was closed. Dude still wouldn't give me my money back.

It was a Robert's pre-K; originally was a Schweggman's.
The St Roch Market is leased out to a master tenant, who, in turn, sub-leases.

That grocery store was the most ghetto place I've ever shopped.

Wife and I went to St Roch market this weekend and really enjoyed the food. It was pretty crowded because of the rain so nobody was sitting outside. Nice place, good food, not too expensive for the most part. Lots of hipsters.

We were there this weekend as well and it was packed to the gills. It looks bigger in the pics than it is. I would have tried more food if it hadn't been that packed.

Robert's was on St. Claude @ Elysian.
