St Roch Food Market grand opening today

Anyone go yet? To me, this is going to be incredible for the city and that neighborhood. It looks awesome, and the vendors look really appealing to me.
Could spend a great day there with friends, drinking wine and eating a bunch of different things. Other cities have this and now, we do too.

I don't think Lord David is St. Roch Food Market's target demographic. Looks like he's a starving artist, and there's no room for his kind in the new New Orleans, unless of course he gets one of those rent controlled artists lofts that are subsidized by the other loft residents.

I could care less if it's a tourist or local hangout. Tourism that's not a Katrina tour is a good thing for that neighborhood. I don't mind playing tourist from time to time and I feel like one when I'm on that side of town anyway.

I went yesterday. Really really nice looking place, but I guess I'm sort of torn on it. Guy in the piece makes some decent points. It's basically a cool hipsterfied mall food court.
The older black lady we talked to, who was wondering where the boiled crabs were made me a tad sad.

But you know New Orleans, no matter what the market tried to do it would receive its share of those comments. A lot of locals react reflexively, imo.
I don't know about "hipsterfied, but who cares if you can get good stuff at a reasonable price? I'm digging the produce up front.

You went? The produce selection is REALLY limited. Basically seems like a complete afterthought, along with the other fresh seafood and meat selections, as alluded to in the blog piece.

I don't understand why people are hating on it because of the hippies and hipsters that live in that area. The food scene is thriving in the Marigny and Bywater...so why not continue to expand past that area? Plus the building sat there for years unused. Having it revitalized is a good thing.

That it happens to be a nice space and will be profitable for vendors is a plus.
