Word OTIS. And heck, seems like half of them have changed parties over the past decade anyway. Party affiliation doesn't mean much in Lousiana's legislature anymore.

Nothing in the bill addresses people with out of state DL's, people who have walked or biked to the establishment,

I probably didn't clarify. Nothing in the bill grants exceptions for those who are on foot or bike.
Meaning...no matter how you plan to get to and fro the bar, even if it means not in a vehicle, the establishment is forbidden to serve you if you do not have a DD with a valid LA DL.

Not only would the enactment of this proposal be absolutely absurd (just think about the controls you would have to have in place to comply with the law) but can you imagine the risk this would create for the restaurant/bar industry. If this ever made it out of committee, the food/beverage/restaurant groups would line up to beat on this legislation like a pinata.
Also, I have to imagine this guy's congregation, I mean constituents, would be upset if the Chili's and Applebees were no longer open for Sunday socials.

Dude's from Haughton. This is a great example of much of rural N. Louisiana's understanding of drinking.
Is that a Baptist area or highly non drinking/religious area?
How the guy is not embarrassed by the whole thing, I will never understand. It's so silly.

Yeah, I gotta think that any south Louisiana rep would know better than to vote yea on this one. Although we do still have blue laws.

Gotcha. I only ride a bike with flat tires to NOLA bars so I think I would be grandfathered in.

That bill has less than zero chance of passing. And if it would pass, it would get tossed out by the state supreme court.

That's awesome! I have a Texas DL. So when I come back home it will be illegal for me to be the DD! That's gonna be the trump excuse to have someone else drive.

What happens if you walk to the bar or ride a bike ?

Sounds congruent with the thinking of Baton Rouge. I'm from a big city where pedestrians are the norm, but in Baton Rouge I've nearly been killed a few times while crossing correctly and legally. I'd wait for the green light, then begin to cross, and there would be this Bubba making a left turn into me. Many times I would have been hit if I didn't jump out of the way. Some would lay on the horn or shout at me out the windows as if to say, "You need to be in a fricking car, idiot!!!" It came to the point where I would hold my keys in my hand, and if they cut me off, they would have a nice key scrape down the side of their vehicle. Call the cops. What are you going to say, that you hit a pedestrian while crossing legally?
Sounds like this law would suit BR just fine. In fact, while they're at it, they should make it illegal to walk anywhere in the city, that way they wouldn't have to spend any of their 9% taxes on wasted concrete.

the guy since has publicly stated that he knows it probably isnt the right answer but he hopes it sparks conversation on drunk driving and maybe even some studies on feasible solutions.....
i hate him so much.
