Finishing up a road trip from Colorado to BR. We always stop in Amarillo and enjoy the steak at The Big Texan. These are some great steaks. Anyone else had one? It's a cool stop for the kids and they have some great food and good brew they make in house. It's a little nostalgia for me from being young and stopping here with my parents. I had the bone in ribeye on the way down and the t-bone on the way back. Both were excellent and the double IPA they make was great.
Let's get to it...In-N-Out in Dallas. I've never had In-N-Out and went in with an open mind. I've heard mixed reviews and didn't want to get suck into the mythology or hype. Give me Whataburger any day. Whataburger is a better product. I had a double double animal style with animal style fries and it was a good one time road trip eat. I wouldn't seek it out again. I mention this with the huge drive there is to pull In-N-Out into Colorado. I just don't see why they're so hyped up. I would probably stop at Whataburger before them if they were side by side.

I'll take Wendys over Whataburger any day of the week.
Whataburger's burgers are so meh. It is pretty much a Sonic Burger. Buger King and McDonalds may have better burgers than Whataburger.

That's funny that you knew to order "animal style." I made the mistake of ordering "monster style" my first time there and almost got laughed out of the place by my Californian friend. The burger was good but the fries were seriously lacking. I agree that Whataburger is better

Why did you ruin it with the animal style bullshite? Just get a normal burger and they're fantastic. Not better than whataburger still, but very good.

I've never eaten there. I have old nostalgic places I like to eat too because of my folks bringing me there when young like Hymel's in Convent, LA.

I spend a lot of time in California with my job and I'll say the In-N-Out's there are much better than others. The one in Vegas blows and I would take What-a-burger over that one any day but in Cali I think In-N-Out is the best fast food burger on the market. I don't know why but they're better out there. At any given time the drive thru's are at least ten cars deep. Here in Louisiana I agree with you I think What-a-Burger is tops.

For all the hype 5 Guys gets, I feel the same about them. 5 Guys food is very average. Ground Patti was my all-time favorite burger, but they're gone now. I don't eat a lot of burgers, but most BR places have burgers that are better than 5 Guys IMO.

I'm gonna make it to the Big Texan, someday. I have no doubt I can defeat their steak challenge.

I 100% do not get the whataburger hype train. It has taken on mythical levels on this board Anywhere outside of here, it is looked at as just another fastfood mehburger

There's a Round Pati in Gretna.

how much of the in n out hatred on this board is attributed to the fact that people here generally hate LA & California (and anything associated with the 2).

I dont think IN-N-Out is quite worth the hype based on taste alone, but when you couple their service and attitude compared to other burger places, it gets my #1 ranking. Similar to chikfila

Culver's has a great fast food burger. Plus fried cheese curds and incredible mild shakes!

The spread sucks too. I always opt for a 3x1, no spread, with a whole grilled onion (and top it off w/ some banana peppers from the fountain drink station)

animal fries are a must, but i prefer my burgers non-animal style.
the spread is awesome though.
