I have a cast iron heat deflector for the BGE... but I have not seared steaks on it yet.

Pretty sure I got it from Goodwood Hardware. One of the feet on the original ceramic heat deflector had broken off so I was having to balance it in there, replaced it with the cast iron version.

ETA: Obviously Goodwood Hardware won't help you out much if you're in Mobile, unless you drive through BR often. There's probably something similar there though, a good outdoors/cooking store. I guess anyone that carries the BGE should have that accessory.

EATA: Found it on Amazon. LINK

Pretty sure I bought it for a good bit cheaper than that though.

Any tips to crisp up the fat a little and still keep a medium rare.

I use my big black iron skillet on my crawfish burner. Get it scalding hot...no olive oil, non-stick spray, etc...and drop them in for about a minute per side. They'll stick initially but when they unstick I flip them. Did some Tuesday night with a crawfish cream sauce.

Anyone have the cast iron grill grates for their BGE? I've considered getting them just for this purpose.

I've got them. Used them to sear a whole tenderloin. They work great

I'm all about the reverse sear. I did it for some sirloin that I used for stir fry. Came out so good.

Yes. They are great. Highly recommended. When I reverse sear, I can use either the grates to get a char or cast iron (which always works better). The grates do better than the normal grill, though

Although I wish it had a little more char.

I put my cast iron over my crawfish jet burner.
