Reginellis Northgate Closed by lilwinemanThe bayou was the shite...good local bands, even caught some bands that hit it big there back in the day (modest mouse I believe was one),

Yep. 11/16/1998 - Modest Mouse played there. Wow, that would have been after Lonesome Crowded West. What a show that would have been to see!

The Bayou was great. It's the bar that's featured in Sex, Lies and Videotape. They had a bunch of pool tables, they didn't have a jukebox but they played whole sides of vinyl records, so you would get to hear deep album cuts. It's the smokiest bar I've ever been to -- you could almost cut the cigarette smoke with a knife. They had pretty cheap pitchers of beer. It was just a chill place. They sold these great T-shirts that said "Walk in, crawl out"
The Police and R.E.M. played at the Bayou way before they got huge. Pixies played there about a year or so before I started at LSU.

I think its the pepper relish that made the sandwich. Anyone ever try to replicate?

was there ... it was okay (and i was a fan). At The Drive In blew the doors off the place. I have never heard that the Police played the Bayou?? that seems odd. REM playing is common knowledge. It was hands down one of the best bars in the history of BR and took all kinds especially on double drunk night (wed)

Next to Inga's and Geauxld Tiger or whatever it is. Other than Insomnia Cookie moving in it looks like that whole block is going to crap.

The slumlord that owns that block has tried to double the rents in the past year while still not fixing anything. It's forcing businesses to change or close down. I don't know what this guy's MO is, but he's bankrupting the two bars, forced Bacio di Roma out of business, and would have sent Highland Coffees packing had he not caved to pressure and compromised on only a slight bump in rent.

That whole area could be something really special, but instead it's a special sort of suck thanks to poor ownership.

That's a shame. The north gates area should be awesome and instead its a mix of squalor and chains creeping in. Obviously there are exceptions like chimes and highland but the overall potential is being wasted
