re: Reginellis Northgate Closed

Northgate Tavern has been constantly going out of business/changing ownership over the last 5 years. It is seriously lacking an identity and has honestly been pretty shitty most of the time. It's kind of a dump but not a full out dive bar.
Slinky's on the other hand is a true dive bar. it's small and dark, and people are only there to get drunk. It serves a purpose for a a small group of people but isn't a college bar at all.
I honestly don't think a bar would do well there because nobody wants a college bar there. That whole street is trying to reject the type of atmosphere tigerland promotes.

Northgate has been closed for a while due to contract shite
I was there two years ago during the Florida game and the cops had to be called because there were two different people trying to operate the bar and claiming ownership, leading to some fight
Suffice to say business was not going well

Slicky's is super depressing

We were at Slinky's Friday night. We like dive bars, so we go to that place once every 6 months or so.
Back in the day, they used to serve a drink called the Slink. My wife got the recipe from the owners -- it was kind of irresponsible -- it was loaded down with blue curacao, 190 rum, Midori and vodka.

It's very low key. Some music playing, a small bar, and a few people scattered throughout. Not sure how that's depressing, unless you go to bar's alone to try and meet people. The only thing different I know of that happens there is a live podcast on the last monday of every month.

Bring back the Bayou, that's the only answer.

For a replacement, I like the Korean BBQ idea.

Always packed. It's pretty much the quintessential Lakeview eatery

The bayou was the shite...good local bands, even caught some bands that hit it big there back in the day (modest mouse I believe was one), grungy and dirty, always smelled of smoke, way too much rolling rock and high life being served, cheap shots of whiskey, and pool tables...I lived there in college

Never a fan of reginellis, always thought their pizza was mediocre at best.

I've always wished they made that little strip on west chimes into upscale bars that catered more to college students/young professionals. A couple bars that are strictly 21+ and had atmospheres similar to The Bulldog.
I think it would do really well there, especially now that Barcadia is around the corner.

In literally every other college town I can think of that would be the prime college bar strip.
Baton fricking Rouge.

So when will the Jimmy Johns open in its place?

It is so sad that it isn't. It has potential to be wayyy better than tigerland. There already is the Chimes, The Varsity, and Barcadia. Revamp west chimes street into more bars that attract college students and that area could be the solution to Baton Rouge's terrible bar scene.
