I know we have some restaurant folks on here that most likely have experience with a variety of brands and can point me towards something reliable that really works well. What brand do you recommend...what BTU rating am I looking for...what size (this is for residential use but with enough size to entertain)?

How about a good used one from a restaurant supply type place? Good idea? Bad? This is the style I'm looking for..

Thanks for all your help.

Just curious, why are you wanting this instead of a gas grill? (Seriously curious not trolling)

I believe you Coach. Serious answer is that I have 4 pits already (none gas). I just don't have room nor a desire for a full blown gas grill.

Thx for the advice. Did that. 1200 bucks no bueno bruh. Appreciate the rec though. I'd rather something similar to the table top variety I listed in the OP.

I've seen some semi-pro outdoor propane versions. The only place I can recall is Vine's Brothers in Centerville, MA.

Don't know anything about it. That was just the first one that came up on a google search. You familiar with that brand?

Pretty cool set up but not quite what I'm looking for....I don't think. I'd prefer the flame from the bottom. Why? Idk...just seems like it would turn out a better product.

The advantage of the broiler is it doesn't flare up from the drippings.

I own that Cajun Broiler that is linked. Like you, I've got four other pits on the patio and added the broiler to the collection. I mainly cook steaks and tuna on it, though I have roasted corn on the cob and other vegetables. The only problem I have with the broiler is now my Weber kettle goes unused. The broiler heats up in five minutes, sears to rare in less than four minutes, and will hold eight ribeyes. It is of excellent quality and craftsmanship and makes me wonder why I waited so long to purchase it. It turns out the most amazing Yellowfin Tuna steaks as well. As mentioned, the broiler never flares up. If it fits your application I cannot recommend it highly enough.

I'd be curious to hear that answer too. It just may be what I end up getting.

The Cajun Broiler looks great to me. I can see chargrilling oysters on that perfectly in addition to other things.
