What are the things the state does better and differently than others during the holiday season? Looking to compile some recipes to share with my out of state in laws.

Oyster Patties
Turducken
Spinach madeleine
Oyster dressing
Mirliton and shrimp dressing

May not be strictly Louisiana, but I’ll add pralines. Always had them at holiday time as well as and cocoons (Italian wedding cookies), but that may have been just my family?

Maybe a sensation salad? We always seem to have that at our holidays.

Red Beans with the Christmas ham bones

It's a different taste... sweeter. I only do it once a year... in the week between Christmans and New Years.

I find it to be more of a show than some great can't miss meal.

It's cool to say you had it once.

Turducken is a novelty and in no way a great meal. As mentioned, it’s worth trying once to say you did, but it’s never the better option.

Indeed it is worth it
If prepared properly

I still have a copy of Chef Paul Prudhomme's recipe he sent to me back in 1985
The recipe is typed and is 21 pages long

That's right
21 pages

Best first addition EVER

What is this? Similar to a crab cake or salmon croquette?

As someone from Texas who married into a family from New Orleans…oyster dressing is far and away the best thing on your list.

When I first started dating my now wife, oyster dressing sounded like a waste of perfectly good oysters…I’ll never not have oyster dressing during Thanksgiving/Christmas.

I’ve had oyster patties from a few different folks preparing them…I just don’t get it…visually it looks like a dog took a shite in puff pastry.

Mirliton…I’m half Mexican…so chayote is familiar to me…I’m not a fan of it prepared the way my folks do it traditionally…the addition of shrimp and crab only marginally move the needle.
