Planning a NOLA trip - want to try mostly all new things

So here's the deal. Good guy friend of mine and I are thinking of heading to New Orleans in a couple weeks probably just for a 3 day weekend. I don't think he can get more time off of work.
I'll probably take him to a couple of my old regular spots like Finn McCool's and maybe Commander's Palace if we feel like getting dressed up, but looking to try some places that are new to me as well.
I know he definitely wants to try at least one mixology type bar and he is a big beer guy so I guess Avenue Pub will be on the list as well.
I'm trying to keep most of the food recs in the medium price range mainly for the sake of being able to dress casual. Not particularly concerned with what area of town the places are in or what type of food so long as it's good.

And any recommendations on bars with good food are also welcome.

Depends on what you're looking for with Bars with good food.
Bouligny Tavern has good food and will have some hot uptown girls. Its a more upscale place.

Igor's on St. Charles has a great burger

Boucherie might be your best bet. Domenica (or Pizza Domenica uptown) & Shaya are also turning pretty good stuff right now and neither will break the bank unless you really blow it out.
Could also sit at the bar at several places where you can order a few items and keep the price manageable, especially during happy hr....I'm thinking spots like Peche (arrive early just in case), Borgne, Capdeville, etc. (ETA: Those 3 also have good draft lists.)

These are pretty solid recs, I'll add Treo, Oxalis in Bywater.

I'm with you on these recs, and will add Mariza, Oxalis (for food), Franklin, Coquette, oh and definitely Kin if you can get in.

I just tried Apolline for the first time this past weekend, and it was pretty good for a medium-range casual dinner.

Please just quit posting on here man. for frick's sake there are 15 better spots to get a burger in the city than some trashy joint where people are washing their clothes 5 steps from the kitchen.

Sobou makes damn good drinks and has a good menu of easy stuff you can eat at the bar.

Just checked out their website. Going to ask the mr to take me there this weekend.

I second this, in the back there is a small whiskey bar, The Branch at Oxalis (you have to walk through the restaurant and an outdoor courtyard to get to it).
As far as casual food, Pizza Delicious, High Hat, and Cowbell are all good casual places.

If I'm rolling with just a buddy the types of places I'd be hitting would be:
Butcher
Ave Pub
Peche
Pizza Domenica
Johnny Sanchez
Bouligny Tavern
Parkway
Cure
Ancora
Cowbell
Boucherie is too small and while great food for a good value there is really zero atmosphere to speak of IMO. Commander's is a solid decision.

They moved around the corner. Much bigger space.
