OP, the NOLA convention people have spent large $$$ studying what people want/expect/like about New Orleans on their first, second, third, etc. visit.

Results were clear: first visit has to be the French Quarter. Anywhere else will not be understood.

Second visit has to be streetcar / CBD / uptown. Only on the third visit do you let them wander.

Just reporting the facts. Swamp tour was tops for the third visit, by the way.

I absolutely agree with all of this. Would love to see that study and thread about it on here though.

Would dinner at Napoleon House on the first night be a good idea? Then we can find something to do after dinner.

Napoleon House is a legit spot. You definitely gotta do Bourbon St especially for a first time visitor.

I don't care for the food at Napoleon House, but it's a neat place to go for a drink. So is the Carousel Bar in the Monteleone. Not party places, but good for one or two drinks.

Go to Cafe du Monde for breakfast or a snack. A first timer should have beignets. Do not wait in any lines. Go directly to the middle where there is the enclosed seating. When you see a table open up, go sit there. They will clean it and take your order.

You still haven't given us the info we've asked for. Price, (we now know you want to stay in the FQ), dress, meals you need to cover, foods she likes or foods you'd like her to experience or does that matter?

Matisyeezy Places to eat and things to do in New Orleans It's New Orleans, it's all dangerous. I think I've been shot like twice. You can keep the bullets as souvenirs.

Only twice? Dude.

I've been shot 11 or 12 times. I can't remember anymore. I get shot every time I go to New Orleans these days.

I keep hearing about the Garden District, though. What part of Bourbon Street is that on?

I hate getting shot.

You forgot Pat O'Brien's and Cafe du Monde.

Oh wait. Those are legit, though.

Are you looking for restaurants around where you'll be staying? You want more casual stuff or nicer things?

Yes. Since I'll only be there for 24 hours, I want us to stay within the vicinity. I'm the nice restaurant/dress clothes type, but I think this visit will end up being a bit more casual.

What kind of restaurants do you like? Are y'all more into drinking wine and listening to jazz or do you like traditional bars?

I love Italian. Of course being from here, I like Creole and Cajun, but she's never had it and would like to try. I don't like wine (well, I really haven't tried much wine), but she does like wine. I love jazz spots and traditional bars. She's never been to a jazz bar, but visiting one is another thing that she would like to.

type of alcohol? music? dive bars? parks? museums?

I love rum! I also love everything else and she does too!
It's not an exaggeration when I say that I like every genre of music except for christian music. She's more into rock and a little of the actual good pop music that doesn't get played on top 40 radio.
No dive bars!
We're both into parks.
We're both really into science and art, so museum recommendations would probably be great also!

Based on where you are staying, I would say take your woman to eat at Irenes and then after drinks at the Hotel Montleone rotating bar or at the little jazz venue at the Royal Sonesta.

If you want a more lively scene, you are very close to Frenchman Street. Go drink at DBA and see if their music excites you. If not, check out a few of the other clubs in the area.

I'll google those places.

Cost? Dress? Location?

The cost doesn't matter. Strait up OT balla right here son! Just kidding, but the cost really doesn't matter.
Like I said earlier, even though I'm the dress clothes type, this trip will probably end up being a bit more casual.
Vicinity of our hotels. I'm staying at Melrose Mansion and she's staying at Lamothe House.

Based on the responses this was obviously posted on the OT first.

That's definitely my fault man. I really didn't leave the lady and gentlemen much to work with at first.

I was actually thinking about Pat O's also. She's never had beignets and I love them, so we'll definitely go to Cafe Du Monde on the first night!

My apologies for the way that the thread started out guys. I'm a very organized person and I didn't plan to go to New Orleans to see her at first due to not being able to get off of work. Now I have to leave work early for a class on the first day of her arrival, so my boss ended up letting me take the next day off, so now I'm stressing about not having our itinerary planned out in advance.

Aside from that, I used to go to New Orleans a lot, but I haven't been going much lately these past three years, so I thought that it would be ok to get the assistance of you guys and definitely not the OT!

Thank you all so much! It is greatly appreciated!

The WWII museum is an absolute no brainer, in that case. I'm not sure how much time you're working with though.

Take a stroll down Royal street as well and check out the art/antiques.

You could also take the Canal Streetcar line to City Park since y'all both like parks and such.

At least you'll be there on slower nights of the week, so you can probably get into some places without trouble.

You could get a reservation for dinner at K-Paul's. It fits this desire. Or, you could go to dinner or lunch at Bon Ton Cafe. That's not in the Quarter, but it's downtown and not far. The crawfish bisque and etouffee is very good there, along with some other dishes.

Don't use Cafe du Monde for a meal unless it's breakfast, late night snack or mid afternoon snack.

I wouldn't take a first time visitor to Irene's. It's not that exciting of a place. 4 of us ate there recently for the first time. I wasn't terribly impressed. It's small and I felt like we were crammed in a room with a low ceiling like I was eating in a basement on top of other people and the food just didn't love up to the hype overall.

We had a fabulous meal at John Folse's R'evolution attached to the Royal Sonesta, though, and some friends of mine went last weekend and had the same experience. It's a nice restaurant, but you can eat there in casual dress. It's on the high side cost wise, but the food was terrific, the presentations were great and the service was excellent. You might want to consider it.

You can look at Remoulade which is the casual side of Arnaud's for a lunch or snack of shrimp remoulade and oysters Arnaud, both worth a taste for a first timer.

You can pick up a muffalatta from Central Market and eat it while you people watch in Jackson Square.

I'm not real clear on how many meals you need.

I have always enjoyed Pat O's piano bar, touristy or not.
