I've had lots of recs in BR: Schlitz & Giggles, Red Zeppelin -- but I've found them all to be pretty mediocre

Oscars used to be our favorite, but now we lean towards Grimaldis. Honestly, when they are on, I think Schlitz and Giggles is pretty great, but they are VERY hit or miss.

The key to really enjoy Grimaldis is to eat it fresh in the restaurant. It is pretty stellar that way.

I've heard mixed reviews on Grimaldi's; it seems like people either love it or hate it. I've also heard that it's quite expensive (and that they charge out the arse for extra toppings and even extra sauce) and not very filling.

The love hate probably has more to do with style than anything. This is thin crust NY style pizza. If that ain't your thing you won't like it.

We ordered a large (18in) pepperoni and a small caesar salad. Me and my wife split the salad. My wife and my two kids (7 & 10) ordered sweet tea and I had water. The bill was $35 which I thought was reasonable, and my family left full.

Saying that their pricing system is a little strange. It would cost a lot for a supreme and the additional topping prices are the same regardless of the pizza size. So, for it to not be expensive you need to order the large with few toppings (not a problem for my family) and everyone share the pizza. If you order personal sized pizzas with multiple toppings it would get very expensive.

I would agree with this. The atmosphere is nice, and I am not sure it the crust would maintain that nice crispness if it were to sit in a box to steam for a half hour.

This is so true. I'm usually about 3 pitchers deep before I eat the pizza there though, so at that point anything taste great.

I feel like Red Zeppelin gets overlooked too often.

Then again, part of my affinity for the place is probably the tap lineup and pricing. I just think its an underrated little joint to get some good pizza and beer.

Red Zeppelin is my favorite. The location, the porch, the beer, and the pizza are just right.

The crust is good, but the flavor sucks.

One of the main ideas behind pizza is it being a relatively inexpensive way to feed several people. Grimaldi's is fine, but they forgot the cost of living, and relative incomes, are a bit different in the South vs. Manhattan.

I'd agree.

Still I don't mind paying more for pizza if the ingredients reflect that, don't think that's the case at Grimaldi's.

I have never seen the appeal of Mellow Mushroom. The food is expensive and average at best. As Jones said, the crust is overwhelming on the pizza and a large is like $25-$30.

No thank you.

Anybody like Rotolo's? I know they aren't anything special, but I've always thought they were solid.
