Here is some from the WAFB article:

"We wanted to feed everybody," said Pelican House co-owner Chris Juge, "We wanted to get everyone together so they can talk to the brewers about the nuisances of their beers, and the upcoming releases that they'll have annually."

Just heard a couple reports from mavenish friends that it was a shite show. They said they saw a painted vagina and that was it.

I think she is so cool.
Watched a dude just going to town hitting on her and pulling her away from customers all night one time, and she handled it with way more grace than I would have.
LB is pretty awesome. I'm there all the time and the staff is pretty top notch.

I've never been to pelican house. But after reading this, I'll certainly never go.
Screw those people. What ripoff. What a joke. I'm telling everybody I know to stay away from that shithole.

I was there with my dad, and I'm not going to lie, we left very disappointed.

Seems like they fricked up real bad here. Someone called me yesterday morning to see if I wanted a ticket. Glad I passed.

Sometimes those beer events are a ripoff.
I've never been to one that I didn't think was a ripoff.
I went to one in Philadelphia a few weeks ago...it was a Bourbon, Beer, Blues & BBQ fest. $50/person. They at least gave everyone a small beer glass and beer samples from 20+ breweries were free. 3 tickets for bourbon and you got a tiny shot. I can't comment on the BBQ because they ran out with 2 or 3 hours left in the event.
Still not as bad as what Pelican House did, that's shitty. I've never cared for the place, personally. Feel bad for everyone who went.

It sounded more like they don't understand their clientele. I've met a fair number of these brewers by taking tours at their place, I wanted to sample beers and talk to them about it. I think even the beer vendors were surprised, the Gnarly Barley co-owner was as mad as everyone else.
The idea that people would pay 30 dollars to join a large group of people and just to talk to these brewers was stupid as hell.

Can I get some cliffs here? I know the place sucks but need some context. Was it one of those bullshite craft beer week events gone bad?

PR doesn't seem to be their strong suit.

Exactly. It wasn't a "beer dinner". It was no different than when a brewer pops into Avenue or Bulldog or wherever to give out some promo stuff and encourage people to buy their beer.
This happens all the time at beer bars. And it is never done so with a cover charge.
The City Pork food is cool and all, but Pelican does serve their own (pretty decent) food. If they were charging $30 to cover the expense of the event, they could have just served their own food... or not done any free food.

But how often do you get the opportunity to discuss the nuisances of the beers you're about to pay an arm and a leg for?

Basically, they put out an article talking about having all these craft breweries under one roof. They made it sound like an indoor festival. The ad was incredibly misleading, and you had to purchase the beers from the bar instead of getting samples. Most of the craft places ran out of the good swag early so people didn't even get out glasses or anything.

My dad was so pissed off by the end. We are both craft drinkers that also occasionally brew our own beer, both in the middle class, and both understanding people, but with the Cove next door, we will never be back. We have done the beer dinners at BJ's, Whole Foods, among others so it's not like we avoid them, but I agree this wasn't that.
I think they need a new PR person, this could have easily been avoided with a better written ad.

I didnt feel like waiting in a long arse line for nuisanced beer. I got no "brewery swag", only a shitty t-shirt. It was a 3 hour event, we stayed 45 minutes.

Went for the first time a few months ago, guy asked me what kind of beer I liked, said stouts, he poured me a guiness and acted surprised when I told him I had had it before.
110 beers on tap, 85 are BMC products it seems like
Will never go back

I would like to join the pile here. Been to PH twice, the first was horrible but I gave them the proverbial second chance.
Walked in with six people and ordered five beers and a glass of bourbon on the rocks. Bartender brings me the beers and takes my card and closes it out for the round. I take the five beers over to the table and come back for my bourbon.... And wait, and wait, and wait while he chats up some girls. I finally get his attention and ask about my drink. He informs me that a bar back has to go get a new bottle from the back but no bar back is available. Goes back to chatting with girls while other bartenders pretend I am invisible. Bar back finally finishes whatever the hell he was up to and goes to get the bottle. Brings it back and sets it on bar, with my glass of melting ice. I tell him to pour and he informs me that bartender (still chatting up the chicks) has to do the pour. I am now at bar with glass of melting ice and unopened bottle of bourbon. Bartender is eight feet away and ignores me. Other bartender even goes over and tells him I am waiting. I have finally had enough, drain my melted ice on counter, reach over and grab the bottle and crack it open. He loses it and gets to me in 1.2 seconds flat. Which proves my hypothesis that he was aware I was waiting. Grabs bottle and short pours me. I go to table and everyone is almost done with beers. Finish round and leave. Last time there.
Sorry about the rant but far and away worst service in a bar EVER. And I spend an inordinate amount of time in bars.
