Opinions on Louisiana made Rums (brand prefs?)

I'm considering buying one of each of the Louisiana made rums, but before I do that just curious what the food board thinks of them. I've only had the New Orleans brand so far and liked it. I should probably add that my wife has a strong preference towards clear, so that is most likely what will be purchased.
I know each one seems to have their own sugar ingredient from differing stages in the sugar process. I'm just not sure if that makes for a bit of difference in the end product.

I thought that the Rougarou was really good. The gold was better than silver, but both are solid.

Have not yet tasted any ... I saw l only one here in Dallas and $ 25 for the bottle ..high price to pay for unproven Rum. I love Rum, that's all I drink and normally will go to about $50 per bottle.
The one I saw was Bayou Rum...all I can tell you is that the guy in charge of distilling it is from Cuba and supposedly has spent the last decade or more distilling Rums in the Dominican Republic...he is supposed to have lots of experience.
Also there is another rum out or about to come out from the family who used to own Drusilla Seafood (Bonannos) who I hear has been working very closely with Rum distilleries in Latin America.
My choices:
If you mix w Coke or strong juice.. Bacardi Anejo, it is made in MEXICO, not Puerto Rico and uses the sugar formulas started by Facundo Bacardi.
If drinking straight, find the BOTRAN SOLERA 1893 .. it is supposed to come from the same distillery as Zacapa .. excellent.
Two others : Mount Gay Rum "Extra Old" for STRAIGHT and for similar rums to the Louisiana rums..cheap look at 10 Cane

Old New Orleans is the only one I really liked
I cant remember the brand but I had one of the others at Tales of the Cocktail two years ago when it had just come out and it was horrible.

Same thoughts, though I haven't tried the bayou or Orleans brands. I'll have to check those out soon.

The Rougaroux silver was the one I was thinking of. I thought it was turrible.

The gold isn't much better.
Bayou(either silver or spiced)>>>>>rougaroux
The Bayou Satsuma is a reach IMO

Will check out the Bayou gold ( I much prefer those). I thought the rougaroux was nice, although I can't claim to be a rum connoisseur.

I dont really consider the Satsuma a rum, even though its rum based, more like a cordial

I agree. I added it for completeness.

I have the spiced & silver Bayou Rum in the liquor cabinet

I like Rougaroux because I like dark rum better than spiced but Bayou is very solid, IMO.
Can't go wrong with either.

I bought the rougaroux praline rum, and let me tell you, it is not something I'd drink on the rocks. It was like rubbing alcohol.
But the minute you mixed it in coke, it transforms into a really delicious and unique rum.
Bayou Rum is my favorite, however

Try the Bayou silver. I'm a dark rum drinker but I found it really good. Favorite for Hemmingway daiquiri. Good OTR also.

Gotta go Bayou spiced if you're drinking it straight. Sweet Crude for rum and cokes.

Thanks for the feedback. I was about to ask if anyone had Sweet Crude opinions. You don't hear much about it.

I keep seeing this on the shelf and have been hesitant to try it. I think I will give it a go. Thanks OP for the thread.
