I would say maybe more/better Italian

A Mano closing put a hurt on the Italian scene for sure, but we're still fairly solid in that cuisine.

Maybe upscale Indian?

Or even 1 good Indian restaurant would be a start.

While we don't have any great Thai places, I like things I've gotten at Sukho, Equator, and La Thai.

I was thinking something along the lines of Rasika in DC, but I guess anything that is more than an Indian buffet would be a start

Saffron is pretty awesome but not traditional, I guess.

Place doesn't deserve to be open.

I like Sukho but I've had much better experiences in the Bywater than uptown (which I've only been to twice).

Really surprised to hear all the calls for better Italian. I guess you're referring to fancier, "true" Italian as opposed to Grandma-from-Chalmette Italian. But to me Grandma-from-Chalmette Italian is Italian food; I guess I've never known better.

You don't like Nirvana? I thought it was good when I went.

I'd say a few better BBQ places if anything. A pub would be sweet as well.

Reiterated here. It's fricking terrible.

Y'all go eat Thai food in NYC and get back to me if you still think New Orleans' Thai joints are good. They have a lot better flavor, give you more food and are usually cheaper than the places here .. and if they're not they're definitely a better value.

need to try out Saffron, wf. thanks for reminding me about it.

Eh. We have plenty of bbq joints. Perhaps the problem is that the cuisine isn't as interesting as people make it out to be.

Ive had some solid meals at Bannana Blossom and some pretty good fare at Siamese Cafe by the TJ Maxx in Kenner, but yeah we could use some shots in the arm.

New Orleans doesnt have world class sushi, but Kanno and Sho Gun can be spectacular in certain circumstances.

What I really really want is a straight up, old school no gumbo on the menu French bistro.

Need to try those out. The thai place that was downtown in the CBD was pretty solid but the fricker collapsed.

Out of my realm. Will take your word for it.

What's the closest we have? La Provence?

I need to go back, I've been once and got the wings, they were awesome. The gf got some kind of smoked pork and it was pretty damn good as well.

Nah La Provence is sort of south of France elevated cuisine with Louisiana ingredients. Im talking steak frites, onion soup gratinee, mussels, lusty red wine by the carafe, and salade lyonnaise.

ETA: basically anything that isnt cool anymore because it isn't pho.

Haven't been since they moved to mid city. Did party with them some at Hogs. Happy hour sounds legit over there.
