Vote for Dante's as well. Reasonable prices compared to many, good service, nice atmosphere and a good bar turning out specialty cocktails, decent wine list (cover all your bases, not knowing what she likes to drink).

Just had dinner with the wife at Coquette. Meal and service was wonderful. Didn't feel weighted down, if you know what I mean.

Probably what you are looking for if the chemistry is there and things accelerate, don't want to be weighted down.

Also, I know this is a blind date, the side walk is really smooth in this section of Magazine.

Melange on Chartres,

This is a great first date spot as there is no band before 9. They have great food, and are in a part of town with plenty of places to go to see live music.

I went last night and was blown away by the food. I'm going back for lunch on Wednesday.

The Rum House on Magazine. Good food, good prices, great atmosphere, and great rums.

Mondo's has food that could be in the $$$$ range but is in the $$ range. Mondo Burger, the eggplant, and their half chicken are all fantastic

I'm shocked at some of the recommendations on here for a first date...especially a blind date. If I were being taken out for the first time and on a blind date and someone took me some place expensive, it would creep me out and completely turn me off.

Definitely go with something very casual for a first date that is a blind date. I'd suggest doing something like Lebannon and sitting outside. It's BYOB, so you can bring your own wine.

Niki its giving a 60% chance of rain Friday night. Would Atchafalaya a good recommendation? From the looks of both they seem the same different types of food.

Yall's recommendations for a first date are crazy. Who takes a girl to a place that nice on a first date?!?

Where do you go up from Herbsaint? Stella? August?

Mayas is excellent. Anyone saying Stella for a first date either has never been there or is Donald Trump posting

Maybe I have lost my mind but I do not remember herbsaint being super fancy or expensive .. I go there maybe twice a month and if you want you can wear jeans and get out of there for under 30 bucks a person. They also have a cool little bar area to have a drink and get to know the blind date before the meal. To me that is the perfect place ...

Entrees are 26-36 + small plates (appetizers) + drinks + dessert? + tax + tip =/= under 30/person

Could be .. Still don't think that it is real fancy or expensive .. Most women I dine there with usually order off the small plate menu or bistro menu anyhow .. I think it is the perfect place for a first date ...

I still stand by my recommendation

Of course I have been married for ten years

Rum House and Dante's are two of the better suggestions in this thread. Go casual with a good atmosphere for a first date.

I'd definitely recommend Atchafalaya. The food and service are always great, and I love that their house vodka is Sobieski.

The shrimp and grits are my favorite in the city!

maybe even Jacques-Imo's if you're looking for a really casual atmosphere.

Cause nothing is more romantice than a cock roach crawling across your plate while you eat. The fragrance of a rat rotting in the wall is quite alluring too.
