I have a blind date set up in NOLA next weekend. I am not from there but she lives in NOLA. She said she eats anything. I am not wanting to do the sushi thing. I think its overrated for a date. Somewhere in the $$ or $$$ range.
Any suggestions?

Thanks

Bayona (if you want something nice and intimate) or Mondo (more laid back, casual). You can try Cafe Atchafalaya too.

For a first date, I'd go with Mondo.

Emeril's is my favorite restaurant in the WHD in NOLA. Dinner is outstanding. Herbsaint and Iris are great fine dining restaurants in the CBD. Le Foret is a romantic fine dining choice for dinner. Tommy's is a block from Emeril's and serves outstanding classic creole Italian cuisine.

Emeril's @ 800 Tchoupitoulas St., New Orleans, LA. 504 - 528 - 9393.

I looked both up them up and I think I will go with Mondo. I appreciate the recommendation.

Is it hard to get a table on Saturday night? I saw in a review that Mondo doesnt take reservations.

I don't know how much money you have but those places you listed are ridiculous for a first time blind date. Stella? Have you been there? I dont think this guy is willing to drop 45 bucks an entree on someone he doesnt know. Galatoire's is a horrible idea for a date restaurant.

Something refined but not outrageously expensive is what you should go for. Atchafalaya, La Thai, Upperline, Crepe Nanou, maybe even Jacques-Imo's if you're looking for a really casual atmosphere.

If you like Italian look up Maximo's Italian Grill. Very good. Great wine selection. She will be impressed.

I'd go across the street to Dante's.

Brigtsen's is great, but I'd rather go to a place with a more lively atmosphere on a 1st date, IMO.

A blind date?

Something not too pricey and around interesting places to go.

would rather a quieter setting to talk & get to know, esp if he is driving in to meet her.

but i can see the other way too. Easier to break ice on a blind date at a livelier place.

I think Green Goddess can make for a good place for a blind date. The food is interesting and if conversation is at a lull, you can at least talk about the food. Atmosphere isn't romantic and it's very small, but there's outdoor seating in good weather. It's quirky. Just depends on what you're trying to achieve on this blind date. I don't think it's ever a good idea to go over the top on the first date, especially on a blind date. Hard to follow up after that if other dates materialize.

I would hit St. Marie for a cocktail then head to Herbsaint for dinner and if things are going well, either bouligny tavern or Monkey Hill for a night cap

That would be the order I would rank them

ETA: and herbsaint is way ahead of the other two.

I love Mondo, but you are probably in for a long wait on a weekend night. Of the three you listed, probably Herbsaint. But, I'll throw two more in the mix: Melange on Chartres, right off Frenchman (see the other thread with Napoleon's review) and Maurepas. You shouldn't have a long wait for a two top at either. Maurepas is probably a little less expensive than Melange, and has a nice craft cocktail list and tapas style dining options. But, with Melange you have the advantage of being next to the Frenchman Street music clubs for post-dining entertainment.

Herbsaint for a first date, especially a blind date, is a bad idea.

Surprised it hasn't been mentioned or maybe I missed it, but I think Boucherie would be a good choice. Very reasonable prices, great food, laid back atmosphere but not too casual. Only negative is it is small so can be loud. You would need to call for reservation pronto.
Atchafalaya would be great too.
