New Orleans weekend recomendations

I need some recommendations on "can't miss" food places to take a significant other to in New Orleans. We will be there for the first weekend of JazzFest. She is from up north and has never been to New Orleans so I want to show her why NOLA is so awesome. Her birthday is also that Saturday night so I want to take her to a more upscale place for that meal.

Commander's for her birthday, but get reservations soon.

These should help you (it's a common topic):

There are plenty more if you search "New Orleans" and filter by subject only. You can never go wrong with Peche. But like someone said, make your reservations ASAP. JazzFest is obviously near impossible to get reservations as it gets closer.
Hell, I made Peche reservations for this coming weekend 3 weeks ago and I'm still stuck with 5:30 dinner Got a later brunch time than I wanted at Sylvain as well, but I waited until this week to reserve that so it's my fault.
Use OpenTable.com to make reservations. They'll show every time slot available, and a lot of restaurants are available on there. Some you may want won't be on there and you'll have to call, but it is a good place to start.

Commander without a doubt. A muffaletta from Central Grocery is also hard to beat.

butcher is a great spot to get lunch or something more casual, but it is super casual

Herbsaint or Clancy's or Geautreau's for a nice dinner.

$100 gift card, man.
Plus, I'll be there through two more meals.
To quite the philosophical Rae Sremmund, "I like what I like"
ETA: For real, though, I'm looking for Sunday brunch/lunch if you have a suggestion. Have Sylvain reserved but that's really just to make sure I get up and eat I can cancel from the app.
Considering Amelie since I've never been. Or Commander's just because I've heard their brunch is a good time. Even considering Arnaud's. I know the food isn't top brunch you can get, but I know their jazz brunch is fun.
I usually book Atchafalaya, so I'm at least branching out there!

Yeah, like others have said, get those reservations now.
And I would like to suggest you plan accordingly for time/logistics if you aren't a regular for Jazzfest, etc.
Some of my out of town friends have had instances when they came in for the first time of not getting to enjoy their evening meals because they were late getting away from the fest and to hotel to change, etc.
If ya'll are out there all day and in the sun, etc you might be worn down too.
No big deal, just something to think about. Make sure you lady is happy.

For a first time visitor, I think Commander's fits the bill for a celebratory up scale meal. Tell them it's her birthday when you make the reservation and that she's a first time visitor. They'll mark that down.
LL, if you haven't been to Arnaud's for Jazz brunch, do it. Everyone should go at least once, in my opinion. Be sure and get the oysters Arnaud for an app. I always stick with the traditional New Orleans fish dishes there. I like them. They aren't wow dishes. Just good old New Orleans fare. Shrimp remoulade is worthy of a shared app just to taste since Arnaud's is famous for it. We order the oysters and get a few shrimp remoulades for the table with the souffle potatoes.

Both of these places are crap.
OP, I agree with several other posters that Commander's is an ideal spot for what you're going for. Also consider Revolution if you're wanting to dine in the French Quarter. Lunch I would hit Peche or if you want more casual try out: Central Grocery, Port of Call, Felix's, Cafe Reconcile..

I'm getting fatigue from seeing the same spots in almost every response to the OP's inquiry.

Add some other places! Everyone adds their favorites.
If they're going to Jazz Fest, I don't know how many meals they'll have away from there.

I definitely agree with you on the Butcher listing, but the other two are legit Best in Class.
Butcher is a very good sandwich shop and doesn't belong.

I was thinking about eating breakfast at some place, definitely gonna hit up Cafe Du Monde one of the mornings, I'm not to big on it but since she has never been why not. Gonna plan on eating at JazzFest for "Lunch" and then having Dinner somewhere in the City. I just want to plan a good mix of places.

Like someone said, plan ahead for sure. You'll have to reserve as early as possible.. and if you're doing dinner in town, you'll have to leave JF early enough for that... especially since you'll be sweaty and gross. The clay track mixed with the heat.. you'll need a shower.
I don't know if y'all are driving and doing the parking shuttle (your best bet for driving. cabbing and being dropped off from hotel is probably BEST though), but it will eat up some time. So you'll be leaving JF really early to make it to dinner on time.
