A court yard in New Orleans in the summer is going to be pretty hot especially if this is early evening.

How early is your rehearsal dinner?

Am I understanding that only the folks who didn't attend the rehearsal dinner will attend this cocktail hour, but you will be there also?

Oh ok. So this is after the rehearsal dinner. I was seriously hoping it wasn't before and you were going to peace out and leave everyone. So you're looking at a later time. That makes it tough with that many people. My suggestions are Little Gem Saloon which isn't in the FQ but is big enough to fit that many and the bar at the Ritz but it will probably be crowded at that time. I think SoBou is too small. Carousel Bar will be packed.

6-8. Party would be 8-10 or later. Now that I'm leaning toward BlackenedOut's "find a bar and buy a round" idea I can focus on places that can accommodate the number of people.

No. It's just a Friday night get-together before the wedding. No toasts or anything like that. Just trying to corral all of our out-of-town guests to a centralized location.

Yes, this "new" Carousel bar still doesn't feel right to me. We have lots of guests at Monteleone so it'll be our de facto hang out spot for the weekend though.

Bellocq is also not in the FQ but will probably be able to accommodate that size and it has a cool vibe to it for out of town people. Easy street car ride.

Swizzle Stick
Irvin Mayfield's
Sazerac Bar
Rib Room bar is probably too small.

Okay, so it's not going to be as early as I thought.

If you end up at a bar that has other patrons present, how are you going to ensure that you're not buying drinks for folks who are not in your party when you're serving 100 guests?

How about y'all all meet and everyone buys their own drinks?

As an alternative, I wonder if you could buy drink coupons from the Carousel or the bar at Criollo and put those in the goodie bags for them to enjoy at some point over the weekend.

Drink vouchers in goodie bags is a good option.

Is this a late night gathering on Friday?

The "find a bar and buy a round" idea seems to be your best bet

Do you have a suite at the montleone, by chance?

Recently I went to a rehearsal dinner at Le Foret, then everyone walked over to the Sheraton and went up to a huge suite (which overlooked the city) where they had champagne, wine and cocktails etc waiting. Everyone enjoyed a "cocktail hour" in the suite before hitting the town. I thought it was well done and a nice touch

Could be an option if someone has a big room at the Montleone

Its your wedding make it as easy as possible on yourself.

Just pick a bar. Chances are no one is going to let you buy them a drink. I do think Patrick's is going to be your best bet. Its near all the action, but just off enough that it shouldnt be too crowded in there.

Ask Patrick to saber a bottle of Champagne for you.

Well I think that settles that.

Thanks, all, for steering me in the right direction and pointing out the pitfalls in the original plan.

I'll put the wedding planner on that. She is getting paid way too much for the amount of work we've given.

Truly, the answer.

Gary, I agree with others. Don't complicate this. You have far more to concern yourself with. Others will be buying you drinks. You really don't need to be buying theirs. You're going to have a swell reception for them the next day. Just pick a place for everyone to meet up and leave it at that, so you can enjoy it and not worry about everyone getting a free drink and people who aren't in your party drinking off you. It's a nice idea, but ditch it.
