Went to Parkway Bakery and Tavern Sat afternoon, it was a cool place... great environment, hard working people, and the roast beef poboy was awesome.... it was just a big mess of goodness...and the bread pudding was a nice treat too ....obviously no where in BR can you get one this good (pastimes?) ....

We were going to go to Johnny's poboys sat night, but found out it was closed ...so, I let my buddy who lives uptown decide... we went by whole foods and picked up a couple of bottles of wine and went to a nice little place by camalia grill, called Lebanon's .... WOW ...by far the best meal of the weekend ... I guess I've only had Lebanese food in Baton Rouge because it was SO different at Lebanons... The gyro was not sliced, fatty shavings like at arzi's etc ... it was shaped almost like a BIG french fry ... way better flavor than any gyro I'd have ever had, and not greasy .... the grapeleaves were unreal, so tender and flavorful and the leaves could easily be cut with a fork, I could have had a whole plate of those.... hummus wasn't as thick and chickey as I was used to, but I enjoyed it.... it had some nice little lemoney/chile touch to it or something ....it was also nice to pound 2 bottles of wine and not have a big bill too :) (no cork fee either)

Before we split town today, we hit up Johnny's poboys.... I got the shrimp poboy to see if could compete with the likes of R&O's, etc ... it was fine, it was pretty much just your run of the mill NOLA shrimp poboy on Leidenheimer ... I like fresher tasting, larger shrimp...and these were just averaged sized shrimp that were probably frozen...... but it was still real good ...somebody in front of me ordered the seafood muff and that looked like an absolute winner...

next trip down going to try to hit port of call, ye olde college inn, and ????

Lebanons is better than Zeus in Lafayette on any day. My ladies best friends live about 1.5 blocks up the road from there and we hit it everytime we go into town...

Are you talking about Johnny's Poboys downtown?

I went a few weeks ago to the one downtown and while the food was pretty good, the service was pretty bad. It was packed and I ordered a special which included fries and a hamburger for $4 for the 2 kids. When I got my food they forgot the fries and when I asked them I was told the fries was not on the ticket. I told the guy I just ordered the special advertised like a foot away from him on the flyer. He said sorry but it wasn't on the ticket and he blew me off. I just said forget it. Besides that the shrimp poboy and the burger was pretty good.

I have yet to eat better Middle Eastern in Louisiana than Lebanon's....the no corkage fee is a huge plus as well.

Sounds like fun TA, but on the seafood muff, I have always found that it sounds and looks a lot better then it is. Fried seafood just works better on long loaves, IMHO.

I think you meant to respond to Zilla...but I agree...I had a seafood muff at Parrain's and it was not all that good.
