Was a semolinas before Katrina, flooded then they rebuilt as a semolinas after the location sat vacation for a few years. Then a fire happened within a year of reopening and then became Mizado.

I always enjoyed Mizado as it was a nice change and very close to my house. Not a big fan of Zea's though so not sure I will go back.

Parking is their issue but Zeas might have a chance there.

Mizado added a parking lot not that long ago. Always enough parking now.

I'd go to Mizado a few times a year, but don't see myself ever going to Zea in that location.

They should make it a Semolina's again.

I don't see many people from New Orleans driving there to eat at Zea's and Kenner, Metairie, and Elmwood already have a Zea's.

Did many people drive there to eat Mizado? I thought it was pretty mediocre.

No. That's why it's closing. I think Zea's is a poor replacement. That location is so isolated people forget about it. Convenient to Lakewood and Old Metairie folks, but so are all the places on Metairie Rd. Needs to be something better than Zea's.

Honestly, I don't know many people who drive from New Orleans to that area to eat anyway. It's pretty far out of the way.

They draw from Lakewood, Mid-city and Lakeview in addition to Old Metairie and Metairie. It is isolated and forgotten about, but pretty easy to get there from those areas. They are never to get people from uptown, but with all of the new options in Midcity, lakeview, bucktown, and old metairie, they need to stand out so people will remember the location exists.

The quotes I read from Greg Reggio lead me to believe that their food costs were too high to hit the profits they wanted. I guess they can get their margins with roasted chicken and grits.

I think they tried to go on the lower end of upscale (less family friendly atmosphere) with Mizado hoping to get Old Metairie housewives to come drink margaritas. I don't think it worked as well as they wanted and would imagine that the new Rock N Sake further hurt that plan. If they aren't hitting their margins I would bet their liquor sales are well under projections.

ETA - I think it is the same problem that Sala is going to have over in Lakeview.

I liked Mizado. Food and drinks were good and different and prices were reasonable. That said, there was always a corporate sheen to the place. It was a little too slick, too packaged. Zea will do fine there I think for another 8 years or so until they come up with a new concept or sell it.

I can't think of a neighborhood with a more bland food scene then old Metairie. Every neighborhood from uptown to mid city to lakeview and even a small community like Harahan buries old metry

Blue Line is doing solid things as is Vegas tapas but there is basically nothing on the east side of bonnabel worth a damn

I went to Blue Line one time for breakfast and it was bad. The menu was small and I never sent food back, but certainly contemplated that day.

I kind of see the point you are trying to make, but this doesn't help your cause that much.

Isn't there a Byblos kind of place in the strip across from Porter and Lukes?

Overall LE kind of has it right. I like a few of the places in this hood, but it's lacking.
Respect to Randastas for food and Winston's for being a pretty good bar in this area.

I hear better stuff is on the way. Wish them all luck because rent is stupid expensive.
