Metal baskets are unnecessary for big boils. See why here:

I haven't used baskets in years. Always a nylon bag. People here questioned it.
Advantage goes to nylon.
This PSA brought to you by W.

Seems like it would be a pain in the arse to transfer the crawfish from one sack to another.
Just keep them in the original sack.

You can boil in the bag you buy them in, if you wish. No need to buy extras.

Not crazy about eating my food out of boiled plastic.

Do you respect metal?
Where is the nylon pot?

Of course I do.
Mercury is my personal favorite.
Nevertheless, corrosion rates for metal far exceed nylon.

Your PSA has gone over like a turd in a punch bowl.

1) How do you clean it? Do you throw it in the washer and then get crawfish boil residue on your next batch of clothes? The metal basket just needs a good scrubbing.
2) How do you get the crawfish into the bag? Someone else has to hold it open, or you have to sit there and fight with the bag to get the live creatures in and get them to stay in when you could just dump them in a metal basket.
3) How long does this last? Metal stands up to the rigors of continued heating and agitation well. Nylon, not so much.
I fear this thread is not going to go how you expected. At least this isn't the OT. We'll be somewhat gentle here.

Yeah screw metal. That's why I microwave my steaks, I don't want my meat touching metal.

This is good to know in the event that somebody steals your basket.

Seriously how often do people buy new baskets? I'm pretty positive we've had the same one for like a decade.

Seems like that bag would start attracting every stray cat in the neighborhood after a few uses. Do you hang it on the clothesline to dry? I can imagine the smell after a few years of use. I'll stick with metal.

Or you can just get a state of the art boiler like mine
Basket lifts out of the water and sends crawfish down the chute into the ice chest

Balls, you've had someone just steal your basket and not your pot?
Carson what'd that cost? Like $1200?

They have different sizes and that's the biggest. Was a little over a grand I think
