It's still great. My boyfriend is from Jennings and he introduced me to it. We stop every time we can. The root beer frosties are so legit.

I find this to be consistent with most wing places.
Fry a chicken wing then shake it in some salt based flavoring,

The only time I went there they charged me $8.50 for a Green Flash WCIPA. Every dog has has day.

Lafayette is a very fickle market. If your not tied into the city with personal contacts and experience, it's hard to determine what will make it there and what won't.

No good pizza south of philly, that's just a fact

What's up with that location? I don't get it, it doesn't seem like a bad spot, corner bar definitely doesn't struggle there.

Cursed. I can't remember a single restaurant lasting there more than a few years at most. If I had to guess, it probably has to do at least in part with traffic. Getting out of there, especially if you're turning left onto Johnston Street, is an absolute pain in the arse.

Heard rumors of some shady things going down there with some of the employees, possibly involving theft. Not sure how true

Exit on doucet, take left at light

quote:Yup. Higher traffic roads does not always mean more business, in fact it can deter like you mentioned. Locals tend to try to avoid Johnston and Amb Caff. I spoke of Fratelli's (old Copeland's) and I wouldn't want to try to pull in and out of that spot on Amb Caff. I had the same issue in Baton Rouge when Jason had Off the Hook. I loved the store but absolutely hated having to leave the parking lot, making a hard right, uphill, and into 65 mph traffic.

You'd think that Mellow Mushroom would have done well there just from the Grand theater. I'm sure them and the Corner Bar got a bunch of business from the movie house. They must have taken a beating while the theater was closed after the shooting.

It's not just the location. Lafayette has Pizza Village and Deano's, which are both excellent. For MM (a chain) to come in and take a piece of their pie (pardon the pun) MM would have had to have been extraordinary and it's not. Just offering a wide beer selection wasn't enough to compensate for a mediocre food product.

Although I never went to the Lafayette location, it looked like a nice place to watch a sporting event.

I never went either, but when we want pizza, we automatically think of Pizza Village or Deano's.
Agree that it seems like a good place to have a beer and watch a game. That's the attraction at the BR location. It's packed with LSU students and their parents who come in from out of town and want to take their kids some place fun to eat.
Unfortunate that MM missed the mark in Lafayette.
Also sad about Guidry's Reef. Maybe Bread and Circus Dung will take the opportunity to move to bigger and better real estate?

The popular New Orleans oyster bar is set to open its fourth location in mid-August at 3151 Johnston St. where Mellow Mushroom is located

Unpopular opinion, I think regardless of location, pricing will be their downfall. They'll sell a ton of oysters but they'll have a tough time slinging $20+ plates of fried shrimp, red beans, and etouffee around Lafayette.
