Bizarre suggestions for a rehearsal dinner.

Really bizarre. No to both of them for that event.

Kinda thought the same thing.

I didn't even think Toup's had a private space. That's probably the reason they make you rent out the entire place.

How are you surprised that a restaurant would ask for a minimum amount to basically shut down their restaurant for a night?
Especially on a Friday or Thursday night.

Yeah. They probably make more than $5k in a night.

Friend got married at Arnaud's and it was like $70k or something absurd to close the entire place down. (Granted, they got every room and French 75 closed, not just one room)

These places don't want to lose their money, understandably so.

Best bet to avoid a crazy minimum is a place with a private area (or a place made for events like this) so they can remain open for regular business.

The single worst restaurant meal I've eaten since Katrina was at Andrea's (a banquet this summer). Just terrible...a mid-level midwestern hotel banquet would have blown the socks off of that food. Awful on all counts--bagged lettuce salad, complete with the little dried up shreds of carrot. Lentil soup with a few flecks of carrot and an insipid parmesan sprinkle, sub-par/overcooked fish with generic mixed veg medley on the side. I was embarrassed for the organization who footed the bill. Avoid at all costs.

I haven't eaten there in year's, but the last two meals I had there were memorably awful.

Oh, well...maybe if he didn't troll so much, I'd pay attention. I've actually been skipping his posts lately. Got caught on that one.

I've never been that's why I put a question mark behind the suggestion. Sounds like a terrible idea. I hear old folks in Metairie talking about it all the time and I know they do many functions over there.

I think drug reps and ancient Metairie people are the only way it stays open. It's terrible.

I find a few places in Metairie are like that. Seems they survive on the old population.

You're actually probably not far off though from what the OP needs. I know people who've done rehearsal dinners on the cheap at Impastato's.

I went to a rehearsal at Drago's downtown before. That could be an option in that price range.

HebertFest08 called a lot of places when he got married. He was only having 22 at his reh dinner. He ended up at Luke for a minimum of $1000. I believe he said it was going to be about 2 grand, total with drinks. As I recall, it worked out well, but maybe he jump in.

At the time, I suggested he contact the manager to tell him he reads the TD FDB. Shortly, before that, someone had a very bad experience there. She contacted the manager and I believe I also contacted him and suggested he read the board. One way or another, they made contact and he was very concerned. If he's still there, personal contact with him might help on ensuring the experience is a good one. They seem to care about reviews. His name was Brian Katz.

Yup... ended up being a great time. think it was $1850 or so with tip. Had 22 people just like Gris said. Damn near all of us got a serious buzz and a full belly. Women drank a shite ton of wine and the guys drank a shite ton of whiskey... service was really good as well. Only thing with their room is its only closed on 3 sides. So, if you would be okay with that then I'd give them a call. You are still relatively excluded from the rest of the place. I tried a bunch of places, but i be damned if i was paying someone $5000-$7000 to feed 22 people. The people I dealt with were very accommodating. My mom died a couple months prior too the wedding so I ended up handling the dinner. I recommend it.
I'd also get in touch with the manager and tell him you got your info from the TD FBD... again very friendly and easy to deal with. Besh puts out a good product.
