Is there a restaurant in Covington/Mandeville that has liver
and onions as a regular menu item?

Not sure if regular, but Etouffee to Geaux in Covington on Tyler, that's their special on Wednesdays.

Edit: Doesn't seem to be a regular item.

Is that Piccadilly still open there? you can ask for it there and they will fix it if they do not have it on the line.

I'm a fan of liver & onions and will make it several times per month since you can get 4 pcs. of calf liver for $3.99. Last month I went to Piccadilly in LAF and had the liver & onions. Big disappointment from what I remember in years past. Like nearly every other dining establishment, Piccadilly has gone to smaller portions and increased prices. $13.95 for 1 piece of thin sliced liver the size of my hand and the gravy was not seasoned at all. My suggestion, make it at home how you like and you'll never be disappointed.

It's funny. So many restaurants have fallen so much in quality and value, with owners and their recipes changed and prices increased to the point where I wonder if they are still worth supporting.

I go home and make the food in my kitchen, and it is still the same good food I cooked 40 years back.

Yes, I am a crotchety old fart.

The only place in Covington that used to have it that I know of was the Courthouse Cafe across from the old Courthouse in Downtown Covington back in the 90's . Used to be the Wednesday special. The last place I had Liver and Onions as a regular menu item was Cafe Degas on Esplanade about 6 years ago. It was great. They even had Paris Brest for dessert. Memories.

There was a time when Cafe Degas was one of my favorite places. I don't go to the SouthShore much any more.

It must be hard for a place like Picadilly to nail the cooking time and serve it immediately. I'm like you, I've enjoyed it a places like that over the years but it has to be hard to get it right.

Needs to be cooked for less than a few minutes and served immediately.

I'll still order it at places like that, just knowing that it's going to be far from perfect.

I know you can get fried liver at Saia's on Florida in Mandeville.

I tell you one way liver is very good is on the grill.

I don't get to eat it much as my wife doesn't want it in the kitchen but I have from time to time put the slices directly on my charcoal grill and then add onions cooked down on top when I plate the slices.
