They don't have to care what you think to be realistic. Lea's gets a ton of business. Overhead is pretty low. Their whole hams are great. I suggest skipping the place, but your absence won't cause the place to suffer.

Lea's was very good 40 years ago when Lea (a Col Sanders look-a-like) was still running the place near Alexandria. He's been dead a long time. I haven't been there since.

Nah, they've been $20 per pie for several years now, even in high yield years.

Atwood's in Alexandria actually has a better pecan pie, but Lea's is still legendary.

As to the service, it's hard to find talent in Lecompte, working at a spot where the average meal is less than $10.

Lea Johnson was the embodiment of customer service. Back in those days there weren't as many dining options on Hwy 71 as there are now.

The product has gone down in the last twenty years, almost to an unrecognizable state. The meringue on the pies today are similar to biting into dish suds. The pie crusts are soggy.

I'd imagine since the old man passed on, they switched to pre-fab ingredients. Not sure. But it's definitely not the same.

I never hear good things about it, and I would never decide to go there on my own. I have no idea how the reputation was built. It certainly wasn't due to Cenla people.

OTOH, I am not unhappy when pies magically show up at out office.

it's not a bad spot for a gutbuster breakfast on the way back from a pre-work duck hunt in Cheneyville.

Went here often when I visited my grandma in Bunkie. I'm sad to hear that things have seemingly gone south.

I've been through there only once or twice the last few years. With I-49 there really isn't any reason to go through Lecompte any more. I was never a huge Lea's fan to begin with but on the old route from Shreveport to Baton Rouge pre I-49 there weren't a tremendous amount of options hence how Lea's grew a following and reputation.
