So those aren't bad suggestions, but look, you are in Cajun country and you want to eat cajun food, for real.

Join a local catholic church, even if you aren't.

Go to the events with food. You will have real down home food without the fan fare.

That's the real lafayette.

I'd check out
Dwyer's Cafe on Jefferson for a plate lunch
Johnson Boucanniere for boudin and pulled pork sandwich
Judice Inn on Johnston for an old school hamburger
Antler's Seafood and Steakhouse in Broussard or Antler's on Jefferson for a plate lunch.
Don's Seafood on Johnston Street or on E. Vermillion for dinner.
Joey's on Bertrand Drive for lunch
Alesi's on Johnston St for traditional Italian: lasagna, spaghetti, pizza, etc.
Saint Street Inn, 407 Brook Ave for farm to table fare; lunch or dinner
Agave, 1919 Kaliste Saloom for Mexican
Grub Burger, 1905 Kaliste Saloom for the new style, crafted hamburgers, fries and shakes
Landry's Cafe 3701 Cameron St, 3431 W Pinhook, Cajun style diner
Dark Roux, 3524 Kaliste Saloom for a high end, farm to table dining experience.

Just so happens I'm working downtown so a lot of places suggested are within walking distance. Ate at Pat's for lunch yesterday. Saw Pamplona, Antler's, and Agave while walking. Plan on eating at Dwyer's or Johnson's Boucaniere for lunch today.

Antler's and Dwyer's are rice and gravy places.. Dwyer's has their lunch specials posted on their facebook page. Johnson's will have boudin and sandwiches but doesn't have tables and chairs like the other two diners.

Check out Landry's on Cameron, too.. They have a little bit of everything.. Good burgers, awesome poboys..

There's a relatively new poboy joint downtown, I believe, that a few folks have commented on. The name escapes me right now, though. Someone will post it.

The only list you need

Brunch - French Press, Dark Roux, Bread and Circus

Dinner - Marcellos, Cafe Vermillionville, Mazen Grill

Also on the first Saturday of every month Parc de Lafayette has a food truck round up that starts around 9am and it is fantastic. Don't get fooled into going to Lafandas for the food it's disgusting.
