Going to wedding this weekend down there and was wondering if there were some good beer options to buy and take back home. If so, where is best place to buy said beers. Thanks

Try Canebrake and Envie by Parish Brewing Company. LA-31 also has a few good ones as well. You can get either of these brands almost anywhere. Marcello's for sure. Probably Albertson's as well.

Go to the tap room and try some local beers then go pick up your favorite wherever.

Marcello's

When I was going to USL, I spent an entire afternoon in the store one day getting a free, impromptu lesson on wine. The white-haired guy with the mustache and real thick Italian/Brooklyn/New Orleans(???) accent saw me looking at wine and said,"Hey kid, whatchoo lookin fah?" I told him I wanted to take some wine to a date's house. He said,"Whatchoo eatin' wit dat wine?" I looked at him puzzled and said "I dunno..." He shook his head and said "Son, let's talk about wine a little bit."

That sounds about right. They have always been very helpful at Marcello's as far as suggesting wine/beer/etc to people and putting it in layman's terms. Great establishment

Cane Break is a good beer that is brewed somewhere near Lafayette

don't waste the OPs money. frick those people.

ETA: to the OP. grab a 6pack of canebrake and a 6pack of Envie and go home. as Salmon said, if you can, swing by the brewery in Broussard and have a few things on tap. They're releasing Dr Hoptagon this week in the taproom. we don't have shite that you don't get and our local beers are mediocre at best.

You'll have a much better time finding Canebrake.

Went beer shopping in Lafayette today, and I'm from here. Do not waste your time at Marcello's. They have nothing worth looking at. Go to Phillipe's if you want to buy something.
Go to Parish Brewery for sure.

Birmingham > Louisiana in terms of beer options.

Grab some Parish if you can. Keep an eye out for their Grand Reserve. It's doubtful they have any left, but maybe you'll get lucky.

Also, look for some Nola brewing options. Nola Irish Channel Stout (not sure if this is being canned or bottled yet), Hopitoulas and Hopzilla if you can find them.

So obviously I am out of touch with the Lafayette beer scene... Never heard of Parish beer. Just looking at the bottle and the beer in a glass reminds me of Chimay. Is it similar? How would you guys describe it?

The grand reserve? Probably the best beer to come out of Louisiana.

Silky, sweet and creamy. You'd never guess 11%.

Got one aging now. Probably wont last much longer.

Phillippes has best bottle selection (Marcelo's has a lot but nowhere near the quality of phillippes).

Brewery/Taproom: Parish

Bar: Taproom or Green room

No love for the Parish Farmhouse IPA? Have not been back to Lafayette to try it but have wanted to. Am I setting my expectations too high?

It's decent. Still a ton of bottles sitting on the shelf around Lafayette.
