Adding to the problem is the lack of staff.

The federal government in April added $600 per week in supplemental funds to Louisiana’s maximum unemployment payment of $247 per week to laid-off workers or those with significantly reduced hours.

"It affected us," Boudreaux said. "And, fortunately, we have a core group that just said, 'we're not worried about money, we just want to work,' that pushed us through and is still pushing us through."

But much of the staff that had been laid off is opting to stick with unemployment benefits through the July 31 cutoff date.

"So, that's why we thought, let's just put Adrian's on hold," Boudreaux said. "We knew we wouldn't make money during this time. The whole goal was to lose the least amount of money as possible. If we can break even for three months, that's fine, but we have to adjust each restaurant in different ways to break even."

"We're just putting our finger on the pause button for right now until we know what the future holds," Boudreaux said. "We're going to look at Adrian's again. The best scenario will be reopening either Sept. 1 or Oct. 1. The worse scenario would be reopening on Jan. 1. We're just going to see what the market does."

I’ll summarize the third article:

Ownership has discovered that people near Ascension like casual dining (ya think) so Adrian’s is reconfiguring their approach.
Hoping to open in the early fall best case scenario. January is worst case.

but if those people's jobs return... and they refuse to go back to work - they lose unemployment...

something ain't adding up here.

I’m guessing it’s a hassle to report them to the state

It's a weird conundrum with the unemployment benefits. Some of them are good workers, loyal.. and will be back when that money runs out. But ultimately, they work to pay bills. They love you sure. But if a busboy is making more sitting at home, I don't blame him.
So, if it's a good worker that you care for don't stir the pot calling that in. Let them know they still have a job.

Plus, HR is a friggin biTc& these days. All they have to do is say they personally don't feel safe and now it is a wrongful termination.

Also, now think of the climate.
Say you can only have 25% allowed in your establishment... but when you get full, the first family you turn away is minority?

It's honestly not worth the hassle right now to be open. If carryout or togo can keep the kitchen staff and restaurant afloat then you will be fine, but thats not the case in most of these circumstances.

I really don't care too much for this ownership group, but I hate seeing these businesses and employees suffer.
