Full Daily Report Story

quote:

The suit alleges the actions were in retaliation for a 2012 incident involving an Izzo’s restaurant manager, who was fired from his position and went to work in the burrito bar of a Rouses Supermarket in Lafayette, taking an Izzo’s proprietary recipe book with him. A suit filed by Izzo’s in 2012 alleges the Lafayette Rouses used those recipes at its burrito bar. According to court documents, Izzo’s won a court order to go into the supermarket and retrieve the recipe book. “At that point, Izzo’s believed its conflict with Rouse’s was concluded,” a written statement released today by Izzo’s says. “However, Izzo’s recently discovered that Rouse’s has been coercing property owners and developers to exclude Izzo’s from opening new restaurants throughout various parishes in Louisiana.”

Crazy stuff. I wondered why Juban didn't get an Izzo's. I guess that also ends my hopes of the new Rouses development getting the new Lit pizza franchise.

Do you really need a recipe book for a burrito?

Nah, all burritos taste the same regardless of ingredients and cooking techniques.

ETA: This place sure could use a sarcasm font.

The recipe includes the marinades for their chicken, steaks, and pork. It's a big deal. This seems like classic non-compete clause stuff. It all comes down to how his non-compete was written.

Ohhh. Yeah, that's a dick move. Sounds like Izzos already won that portion, so the non-compete doesn't really matter now. Crazy if Rouses folks are truly hindering growth in certain areas for Izzos.

My point was couldnt the Izzo's manager come up with some stuff from memory and maybe change a thing or two? He must have really hated someone at Izzo's to steal their stuff.

ETA: Or he is just an unethical POS

Izzos shouldn't be too worried. That burrito bar is not good.

No doubt.

I remember hearing about that when it went down.... Pretty bad business practices on Rouses' part, in several different ways.

Ima keep givin my grocery biz to Calandros & Alexanders.

This suit has very little to do with the recipe books but rather the hampering of growth Rouses has caused. They will have a tough time explaining their way out of Moes being in Juban and not Izzos....... crazy stuff

Not necessarily. Non-compete agreements are against public policy. They are only allowed when they meet very specific guidelines in the statute.

Wasn't Izzo's originally announced as a tenant? I know a friend of mine was excited because it was being listed somewhere before Juban opened. (physical banner or online perhaps)

Happens all the time. Someone works in your restaurant for a few months to a year, gets your recipes and your set-up, goes into business for themselves or uses the info to get a job.

So they got a Court Order to go in and get the book ...

... nobody had copied or reproduced it by then? ... the recipes hadn't been digitally saved? They're just sitting there with a big arse binder in Rouse's that says "Izzo's" on it?

I keep picturing James Amos in Coming to America, reading the McDonald's manual in his office at McDowell's ... LMAO

Could be Brechtel hospitality needs to recoup some losses from Twin Peaks.
