looks like we're moving to a new house and there's no place for a range; will have to go with a cooktop.

also will have to convert said cooktop to propane.

any advice from my esteemed colleagues on a brand you recommend or thoughts on what i'm getting myself into with this?

TIA

do these have an optional grill as a feature or is that somehting you'd typically buy a lodge for?

i am new to cooktops.

Hey shithead... not to hijack your thread (no ones replying anyway or even cares) but -

I tried your method of aging a ten bone rib rack for 12 days in the refrigerator. Wrapped it in paper towels and changed often. Damn thing was super LEGIT! Thanks!

I think with Dacor those are more accessories to the cooktop, rather than built in. Not sure about other brands though.

Go with this.... has propane converter ability.

An $8,000 range that goes really well in your $4,000 trailer.

for a more reasonable budget, what about this? I really liked the GE i had before and this one has the propane-conversion kit included.

i like the middle burner and the built-in griddle you can use. that lodge i have is pretty cumbersome.

ooooooo

pretty blue LEDs

I prefer the burners to all be flush with each other. It's like getting more counter space, easier to move heavy pots around etc... My gas cooktop before was sort of like the pics you posted. I hated it. I suggest that you at least consider that all the burners will be attached and flush. It makes a huge difference.

I'll add that having the knobs on the front is much preferable to having them on the cooktop where they take up space I could be using. My old cooktop had knobs located where the ones in your picture are located. Hated that, too.

And the BlueStar scores on both counts: front knobs & flush grates....you can slide a pan across the whole top surface. Optional griddle or french top if you want, too.

no bluestar retailer in nashville, tn. do you just order it online?

I bought through a local dealer/distributor. I wouldn't buy online, but that's just me. I'd rather use a (somewhat) local dealer in case there are issues (scratches, dents, oddities). I picked mine up in person from the distributor and had my contractor & plumber hook it up.

Blue Star's post-sale manufacturer's support is pretty good. One burner's finish started flaking, I snapped a pic w/phone, sent an email, and got a new one in the mail about two weeks later. I like the unsealed burners, the lack of electronics, the high BTU output, and the extremely sturdy/robust build.

I don't know that it matters, but my understanding is this is the difference between "cooktops" (knobs on top) vs "rangetops" (knobs on front).

Rangetops seem to be more high-end, but require more work for installation (vs a drop-in cooktop). But if you're starting from scratch it might not matter.
