Too bad. Matt Murphy is a good dude. I never found the food to be that great, but I enjoyed having a pint at the bar and hanging out.

It lasted over 5 years. Wonder why he's closing?

Wow. cool place. I agree the food wasn't great (though good) but I still liked going. this is a surprise as it always seemed relatively busy but I guess not enough to support an operation that size.

The building and business are for sale if any FDBers are looking to dive in.

Saw the SRSA for lease sign up on the building on Sunday and was wondering when the article was coming out.

Only $2.95mm for the bldg. At that price, how could I afford not to?

Another place I just never made it to. Sad, but the summer string of closings is upon us.

Irish House, Charcoal's, Mat & Naddie's...

Damn (again). Primitivo, Mat & Naddies, and Irish House have all been in my rotation. Going to need to start poking into some new places.

A couple of years back I was at Irish House for an April 1 "April Toole's Day" reading of Confederacy of Dunces. The guests speakers included a couple of Yats from Kenner who claimed to be the gents who appropriated (and later returned) the clock from in front of the old D.H. Holmes. A quality tale told with some fine whiskey amongst good people - I'll miss the Irish House.

Per the ever insightful comments on Nola, the chef moved back to Ireland

Yeah this is going to be a common theme here this summer. Too many restaurants for Nola to support.

Way too many. There are over 1400 restaurants in the city as of today. Pre Katrina there were 850-900.

Considering the real estate boom in the city, I'd say there's a helluva more disposable income now too though.

According to NOLA.com, Oxalis in the Bywater is also closing today. Never went to that one but I used to enjoy the old Bywater Barbeque back in the day.

shite how did I miss this. They had a damn solid run, although I can't say that I had been there in a few years.

I've heard that for a while as well. They also closed that place he had on Magazine that his wife ran, as I recall.
